How do you adjust the ND levels? How does it work without stacking?

You change the ND level by rotating the filter, but, per my earlier review (q.v.), I found it hard to know how much ND I was applying.

I dont know all the robotic bioengineering rocket science behind it but you turn the ring on the filter and bam it gets darker.
