LOW LIGHT SHOOTING
So here is the review that I think a lot of people are looking for. How does the 50mm f/1.8 REALLY work in a low light setting. My experience, this lens is epic. I bought it specifically for live event shooting and it was a pain in the butt searching all over the internet looking for reviews on this topic. So I am doing it for anyone else out there who was in the same boat as me.I LOVE THIS LENS FOR LIVE EVENT / INDOOR / NIGHT SHOOTING!I attached a photo I took of Ashley Monroe when she was in LA. This venue was pitch black, only lighting was shining down on stage. If you are going to shoot a live event with this lens I found for a super dark venue that f/3.5 was perfect. Then you can tweak the ISO settings and what not depending on what light you are dealing with. This photo I took while standing, I was in Manual shooting, my settings were F3.5 - my ISO at 1600.This lens does great in very very low light. It does a fantastic job at focusing and capturing the light as long as you are aiming your crosshairs right on your target and you are able to hold your breath long enough to fire off 2 or 3 photos before exhaling. If you bump it down to f/2 or f/1.8 you will need a tri pod. but even with a tri pod I don't think you would get great results in low light.Hope this helps someone out there!

PORTRAITS or single portrait sized subjects ONLY.
I liked the f stop of 1.8 and overall performance. However, this lens is not to be used for a lot of other things other than portraits. Like, getting full body shots. It'll take the picture, but you have to move far away and by then the lens is useless in the perspective your trying to capture. It also, has manual or auto focus selection but the manual selection does not work. At least for mine it didn't. The camera im using is the Canon Rebel T7 dslr that uses ef-s functions, and the lens is ef. I think the s stands for the image stability feature in witch this lens does not have. still a wonderfull portrait lens, but that basically all its good for. I've found myself trying to use my 18-55 more often now.

Quick Reviews on 50mm f/1.8
Hey, I'm PercyI'm a YouTuber (Gogglez Enraged) that does reviews, tips, recommendations, and top gears to get.Build quality of the 50 f/1.8 is very cheap (as you might expect). This lens feels more like a toy than a piece of optics. It utilizes plastic construction right down to the lens mount (the lenses are glass of course). This light material combined with the small size (2.7" x 1.6"/68.2mm x 41.0mm - WxL) puts this lens in the featherweight class - 4.6 oz (130g). The 50 f/1.8 is currently Canon's lightest. It was also Canon's shortest EOS-mount lens until the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Lens was introduced. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens delivers very sharp images as inexpensively as Canon lenses get.The 50 f/1./8 bears a plastic lens mount. Considering how light the 50 f/1.8 II lens is, the plastic lens mount seems adequate from a strength perspective. You might get more wear than you wish if you are changing the lens frequently.Autofocus is driven by a micro motor. Focus speed is not stellar, but fine in good light with subjects that are not moving too quickly. The 50 f/1.8 II is one of Canon's louder/buzzier lenses - you know when it is focusing. But this is not a wildlife lens - and the noise probably won't bother most people. I suppose a positive aspect of the sound is that you know when it is working - and when it is finished working - when focus is locked. FTM (Full Time Manual) focusing is not included. The 50 f/1.8 extends up to 5/16" during focusing - the very small 52mm filter does not rotate. All in all, I truly enjoy using this lens for my B-roll for my Youtube channel and the webpage. As well as having those awesome blur shot background. i highly recommend purchase this lens cause its inexpensive and a good lens to have around because of its size and the picture quality.

Canon ES-68 Lens Hood
This lens hood is an exact fit for my EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Canon Lens. I made the desicion to go with the original Canon piece as opposed to a cheaper knock off due to the fact that I have original Canon Lens Hoods for different lenses. I always prefer the better build of the original. This lens hood is very solid, durable, and has a great matte black finish. The hood also has a great locking feature too so when you put it on it clicks and locks into place. There is a button on the outside of the lens hood that you press to release the hood (see photo). This lens hood does a great job at resisting flare in my at home studio as well as when doing walk-around photography. It can be reversed or put on backwards as to surround the lens which is great for transport so that it doesn't take up space. If you're not sure if this will fit your lens, go to Canons website and check compatability. If you have the 50mm f/1.8 STM Canon Lens, then I highly recommend you purchase this piece. If my review has helped you, please let me know! Thanks and happy shooting!

Affordable nice lens
This lens is very beautiful for portraits and very affordable for a price like that ... did my research between this 1.8 and 1.4, there is no huge difference between them so pretty much this lens is very practical to take to any kind of portrait photoshoot. Tips for that lens , if you notice the elves on the pictures there, there is ones are very close to their face , what I did is flipped the lens to other side and it will like a micro lens for a reason ... all you have to do is getting very close to the subject

this is one is soo much better I cannot say enough
I used to own the original "nifty fifty"...this is one is soo much better I cannot say enough. I shot engagement photographs for a couple recently and used only this lens and the canon 85 1.8 for the whole shoot. This new nifty fifty is SHARP, no need to fiddle with micro adjustments on my 6D. It has better contrast than the old nifty fifty and the construction feels so much better than the cheap plastic feel of the old 50 1.8. Do yourself a favor and stop reading this and buy the lens, you won't regret it.

Perfect lens for everyday shooting
I needed a different lens outside of the kit lens I was using on my Canon M50. Bought the adapter to mount this 50mm lens to the M50 and it's been a total game changer. Works great in low light due to the f/1.8. I've been able to get great background blur while taking portraits and amazing nighttime landscape photos when tripos mounted and using the 2s or 10s delay on my Canon M50. This is a lens everyone must own. Incredibly priced for what you are getting. It a great lens to use while you save up for more expensive lens like the 85mm 1.8. Buy it! Enjoy It!

Q
Will this work on my sony a6000 and tokina minolta 100-300mm macro zoom?
A
Yes
Q
Too loose/there is gap between lens and adapter ring
A
  1. If there is ever any more than a slight amount of rotational play, you may want to try tightening the lens mount adapter so it will hold the lens tighter to the mount. There are 3 flanges in the middle of the adapter (what the lens locks onto) that are split open slightly, this gap is what gives the tension that holds the lens tight to the body. Over time and with use these gaps decrease in size, no longer pulling the lens tight to the adapter, which allows the lens to move inside the mount more than it should.
  2. To tighten the fit, get a slim metal object (a #1.5 or #2.0 small flat eyeglass screwdriver is ideal) and insert it into the slit to open it up just a little bit (see images below, make sure to do it to all 3 evenly). The more you open the gap, the tighter the lens will be to the adapter; too much and the lens will have a hard time mounting so make sure to do it just a little bit at a time to all 3 flanges evenly, it doesn’t take much at all to get a tight fit.Note: please do not use too much strength, or the shrapnel will be damaged.
