WARNING! 50mm EF is not 50mm WHEN used on aps-c camera like T5i. Using this lens on my T5i resulted in photos being shoot equal to 80mm lens. GOOD- you get a 80mm 1.8 fixed lens for under $150. BAD - you don't get the advertise 50mm.

Best lens value for a crop sensor camera. Works out to about an 80mm portrait lens on these cameras. Every Canon camera owner needs one of these in their bag.

This is a great 50mm lens. If you’re looking for bokeh this lens will do it. I have a Canon T6i, remember, if you have a crop sensor camera this will NOT be a true 50mm. 50mm x 1.6(crop sensor) = 80mm. You’re actually getting an 80mm not a 50mm if you cave a crop sensor. This means the image will be closer. It’s not the end of the world. You’ll just have to shoot further back to get the same affect. If you’re shooting in a small pace, this may be a problem. I thought I’d use this for video as well but, it shoots way to close. I’d have to set my camera back too far and I don’t have the space. I also find the auto focus to be quite loud and is picked up my the camera mic. You can’t hear it if you have a lapel mic though. Overall, I like this lens. It does what I want it to do for photos. For video, I use a lapel mic or music track

This filter is to use on my new Nikon 16-80mm DX Zoom. There are less expensive as well as much more expensive filter available but I went with the Ritz Gear 72mm UV filter because it was described as "super slim" and I wanted the thinnest one I could find. The Ritz Gear UV filter is indeed VERY THIN and once threaded into the lens it barely sticks out yet still has the outside threads to accept a lens cap or even another filter. The glass is SCHOTT Glass and is crystal clear and the front element of the Nikon lens still looks like it isn't even covered by a filter. Great filter at a Great price!

I'm not a professional photographer, but I do know how to control my aperture, shutter speed and ISO.That said, this 50mm prime lenses produces amazing depth of filed (or lack of) when wide open.This nifty fifty lens will help you take better shots because its NOT a zoom lens.. it forces you to move around and get the best shot.Remember if your camera is a crop sensor like mine. this lens is closer to 80mm (Crop sensor = lens focal length X 1.6 = true focal length)50mm X 1.6 = 80mm

Let me start by saying, I'm not a professional, but I do a ton of research and kind of know what I'm doing. I was blown away by the sharpness of this lens. I have the old 50mm 1.8 II (nifty fifty) and it doesn't compare. I used to have focusing issues with the old 50mm, but not with this one. In fact, this lens is so sharp, I haven't taken it off my camera. I don't want to to shoot with anything else at the moment. I only own the 70-200 f/4L which is considered to be very sharp and the L is for Canon's professional line of lenses. I found the 50mm to be as sharp, if not sharper than the L. I know it's comparing completely different lenses but it's worth mentioning. The lens is a great price and a perfect walk around lens if you're on full frame. I'm not a huge fan of it for crop sensor cameras because it isn't really a 50mm at this point, more of an 80mm lens. Don't get me wrong, 80mm can be great for portraits, just not as good as a walk around lens. If you don't have this, I highly recommend it. If you have the old 50 1.8, time to upgrade.
