High-Level Competitor on the Audio Playing Field
I’d agree with the reviews on this page. In fact, they helped me make this purchase. I was first led to this product by an article in Rolling Stone which raved about another Edifier speaker which was passive (rather than active, which was what I wanted). So I searched for Edifier here on Amazon and found and purchased these amazing speakers. Here are a few things I learned which might be helpful. First, they were purchased to be computer monitors for an iMac Pro. Second, I first connected them via Bluetooth. What I discovered was that there were music dropouts when I was using the computer. I assume processing other things interfered with the stability of the Bluetooth. Third, when I connected my iPhone to them, however, they worked seamlessly. But … I had a Monster headphone-to-RCA cable, so I attached the speakers via the external headphone jack. Worked perfectly. Bliss! Great sound. And I could control the sound by the keyboard speaker keys.Fourth, my journey continued to enjoy and improve the finer details. I have loads of HD Audio files (24 bit/192kHZ), so I was using those to break in the speakers. Sounded wonderful but … after loving the sound for hours, I realized that, in the past, I had used an Apple utility called Audio MIDI Setup to adjust sound outputs. This is a standard utility. And, lo and behold, under Audio Devices I found the External Headphones jack. I clicked on it and there was a Format choice that allowed me to up the default 44.1 kHz output to 96kHz (2ch 32-bit Float). Now, that was a game changer. The speakers jumped up and took a victory lap. Right now, pumping a fist into the air on the opening movement of Beethoven’s Sixth.Maybe this will help someone. HD Audio, which I mostly get from HDtracks.com, works perfectly with iTunes and is worth looking into if you want amazing audiophile sound to fill your room. I’ve had a lifelong love of vinyl pumped through great equipment (Technics, Miracord, Sony, Yamaha, KLH, KEF, HomePods), so if I’m raving about these $139 speakers, it’s for a damn good reason. Yes, Virginia, they compete well on a high-level playing field.
