hello,you can be stacked with additional filters, but after stacking will effect image, as to how many grades can be stacked, mainly depending on your lens and the degree of acceptable dark corners.

1. 1/4 hazy effect is stronger, the transmittance of 1/8 in the visible light range is T=86, 1/4 is T=84

Unlike a tube it won't effect your focus distance nor effect your quality like a doubler. The lens will have more of an effect than anything else. On my Sony a7, I must be sure to use a full frame lens since the sensor is 35mm size
