After buying this one, I ended up buying a second one right away for my daughters room. You pick either a fan or white noise sound, and then you pick the frequency that you like for that sound. The sound is consistent without any clicks or looped recorder sounds and it has a nice deep tone which works really well to cut background noise. It can also go quite loud if needed. It costs a little more, but you definitely get what you pay for on this. It doesn't allow for battery power, but the electrical cable is small, so still easy to travel with.
