Great Fun
7/6/2021: This is my 2nd first impressions review as the first F11 Gim was defective and had to be returned.I will come back later after I have flown for several weeks or months to update.First, I have a RUKO F11 Pro which is a joy to fly and I learned to fly without GPS with a cheap Eachine E58 pocket drone so this isn't my first drone purchase. My husband and I wanted a drone with better video capabilities than the F11 Pro has so I purchased the F11 Gim which also has good reviews. It seems to be a bit more difficult to get set up properly before it will fly correctly. After following the instructions (which are very similar to the F11 Pro setup) to calibrate it and set it to hover, which it did but not without a little drifting side to side. It was not windy so this should not have been happening but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle so I continued on with my test flight. I raised it to about 8 ft and started flying in camera mode to see how it handled. The GPS signal it had was lost for a few seconds at one point and it tried to take off but I put it into a controlled landing and it was ok.I decided to take it back to the "home" landing pad , take it out of GPS mode and put it into Trim mode. I worked on trimming it so it would hover better without GPS, landed then put it back into GPS mode, at which point it hovered and flew MUCH better! I am hoping it isn't something I'm going to have to do every time before flying. After getting it to work better, I took it around our 1 1/2 acre yard then up to test out the Point of Interest setting, which worked wonderfully. So far, here are my first impressionsPros:* My tablet was able to connect easily to the wifi of the drone. The app is easy to use.* The video and pictures are much better quality than the Pro model, which is why I purchased this one.* The Gimbal worked just as it should, keeping the video stable as the drone moved around to compensate for any breeze that came up* It uses the same batteries as the Pro model and gives a pretty decent flight time, between 20 and 28 minutes depending on the conditions (wind, etc). I got about 25 minutes on my first test flight.* Once calibrated AND trimmed, it was easy to fly and returned home just as it should when the button was pressed.* Dedicated video and picture buttons are easy to get to, along with the zoom and tilt dials which work well.Cons:* It had to be taken out of GPS mode and trimmed then put back into GPS mode to fly correctly. (The Pro model did not)*The controller, though it looks nice, lost some features from the Pro model. It does not have an auto launch/land button, which I found to be useful on the Pro model. I find it a hassle to have to find and use the app for this feature.* It does not have headless mode, which the Pro model has.* It uses 5 GHZ instead of 2.4. 5 is faster but more limited in range. I found that the app video was stopping and starting while, the video on the sd card was good. I don't see that on the Pro model.Overall, my first impression is that they concentrated more on the camera / video quality than they did improving the drone as I feel the drone itself has not improved, but is more fussy to get set up than the earlier model.
