Above average performer that's better than many ot
I purchaced the AMCREST during the video cam shortage caused ny Covid-19. It is a decnt/good camera for the price point. I have not had any issues with it. I own three and purchased one for my girlfriend and my sister bought one per my recommendation. I only have 2 complaints. The camera doe snot come with any software to make image adjustment: low light, brightness, white balance, etc. Second, since no driver is provided and Microsoft does not have a driver that was provided by AMCREST the camera has a generic name in Device Manager which makes it harder to identify when troubleshooting.

Simple to use and very effective camera
Easy to set up and install. I mounted the Sync Control Module very close to the camera and less than 20’ from the Wi-Fi router so I have no problems with signal strength. You can block motion detection zones on the camera, so it can limit activity in areas where there is traffic of no concern. The night vision capability is adjustable and quite good. I chose this configuration because I did not want to pay for a monitoring or Cloud storage service. I am a little concerned that the camera is quite easy to steal but Amazon can disable the device if you send them the serial #.

Motion activation
Motion activation is terrible. Like bad. I understand that objects coming directly to the camera are more difficult to detect. But really it can only detect about 15 feet from the camera. (Yes I did turn the sensitivity to the highest) So any motion occurring in the background will not activate it. Blink doesn’t work with MyQ app. So it doesn’t record video when someone activates the garage door for deliveries. It’s okay if you need to keep track of your dogs around the yard. But I would definitely make sure you have a more secure camera if you want it for security purposes.

Works as expected with one bonus "feature" on my S
Easy to set up / pair with my Samsung Galaxy S7. Using with the built-in camera app. I was actually able to configure the top button (Camera 360 / iOS) to record video, since the Samsung Galaxy S7 currently recognizes that as a volume button. I simply changed the settings in my phone's built-in camera app to record video when the volume key is pressed instead of the default (zoom).A negative side-effect is that the on-screen (default Samsung) keyboard is changed slightly when paired; continuous swipe no longer works, but that's not a deal breaker (just took longer to write this review)

Vertical pan broken after 4 months - update, they
I really liked this camera but after 4 months the vertical pan has stopped working. It's a mechanical problem and not a software problem. The camera can't even support itself in an up and down direction. I really didn't expect a quality issue from this brand so my wife and I are very surprised and disappointed. The camera has basically been sitting in the same place for 4 months so I can't understand how it would break.UPDATE: Had originally left a negative review, but after talking to customer service they sent a new one for free, no hassle.

Doesn't miss a thing
We bought two of these cameras to keep an eye on the kids during the day and the property during the night. They do a great job of picking up any motion during the day or night (I had to play with the sensitivity quite a bit at first since the sensor was picking up anything from a moving shadow to a rain drop but it all worked out). I love how I can move the camera around easily with the app on my phone and the installation was super easy. We have had the cameras up in heat and now rain and they are doing great. I recommend this camera. Good camera and a great price.

Exactly what I needed
I spent days DAYS looking at different cameras before getting this one. This is the second baby camera I’ve owned, the first one was great when my baby was trapped in her crib, now she is a mobile toddler in a toddler bed and loves to run around her room. I needed a camera where I could move it around to look for her. This thing can move in all directions and find my elusive little one as she is playing under things or fallen asleep in a random part of the floor. I’m SO glad I got this camera.

Stop looking, just buy it
My wife and I tried the Owlet baby monitor for a few weeks but hated it. Things I love about the DXR-8:1. Controlling the camera unit is nearly silent. No clunky noises from gears inside the camera.2. The monitor. You think you want your camera connected to your phone, but you don't. You want a separate unit so you can look at your baby while simultaneously scrolling on Instagram.3. Almost zero lag. All cameras that connect to your phone will have serious lag.4. Doesn't need WiFi.tl;dr just buy this one.
