It is easy for homeschool moms to implement
Danny Faulkner's The New Astronomy Book from Master Books is an affordable all-in-one science book. It is easy for homeschool moms to implement, and it ingeniously includes three levels of skill, while presenting the subject of astronomy from a biblical worldview.Part of the Wonders of Creation series, The New Astronomy Book contains 15 chapters plus a complete glossary, with just under a hundred total pages. Large, colorful photographs, illustrations, charts, and graphs add visual interest, while a system of color coding points parents to the appropriate content for different ages or skill levels. Younger learners are directed to one section, intermediate learners add another level, and advanced learners read everything. This arrangement is ideal for the homeschool classroom, as everyone in the family can use this resource together.Topics include the planets and solar system, the night sky and telescopes, stars and other cosmic bodies, and the history of astronomy. This book can easily be used over the course of a semester, is all-inclusive for younger grades, and with a few additional resources can be used for a 1/2 high school credit. The color-coded advanced skill section provide opportunities for research and projects that add substance to a high school level course. Because of the clear divisions within each chapter, parents and students can cover astronomy in as much or as little detail as desired.The New Astronomy Book wonderfully presents science from a creationist perspective in a non-forced way. This book doesn't just present science with a few Bible verses randomly placed. Instead, the entire course is approached with a Christian worldview, but touchy topics are not ignored. For example, the Big Bang theory is discussed at length, with evidence presented to refute evolutionary views.A pull-out poster of the planets makes a nice addition to our classroom walls. The glossary includes page numbers, so students can easily reference information they need. To top off all the goodies in The New Astronomy Book, it is priced under twenty dollars. My family has certainly found its value as a homeschool resource to be exceptional. Highly recommended!{The publisher provided me with a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.}

This book made me feel like a kid again --- a kid
Astronomy is one of the most interesting science and I guess it is a good outdoor nature hobby. First of all, I will not need too much tools or equipment to start with. I can simply have the night sky, my eyes and a book like this. This book discussed the basics of astronomy. It gave a brief astronomy history, talked about the galaxy and the solar system, the sun, the moon, stars and other parts or elements of the universe. Though some of the topics discussed were already familiar to me (I think we all had this subject when we were in grade-school and high-school), I was able to learn good astronomical facts. In fact, I quite find it funny that I never have truly understood what light-year means until I read this book or maybe I just forgot, either way, I'm still thankful this book refreshed my knowledge on that; and the diamond planet? I think it is really amazing. This book made me feel like a kid again, a kid filled with wonder, fascination and awe. I enjoyed reading it and I would recommend it to anyone, young or old, who likes reading about science, astronomy and space.

This is great for beginners!
I bought this telescope for my boyfriend as a birthday gift. He loves it! He's been wanting to get into an astronomy. The toyerbee telescope was recommended by a good friend. The images are so clear! Hi highly re

Great book, paired with a great professor!
For anyone who wants an early start at learning basic things about Astronomy should really get this book. I purchased this book because of a college course that required the text however you don't need a class in order to learn all the information in this book since the author has done a fantastic job with explaining step by step instructions on mathematical equations and the process that all stars and planets go through. I plan on keeping this book around so one day I can teach my children about Astronomy.

A great way to get started with amateur astronomy
If you want to view the night skies above with certainty on what object(s) you are viewing, this is a great way to get started. Definitely a first time 'scope, experts will want something bigger. SkyAlign is a good feature, but you need to be careful in centering the star image. Buy an additional power supply, like the Celestron PowerTank or at least a 2000mA 12V regulated power adapter, unless you want the landfill to rapidly accumulate your used AA batteries. The supplied "The Sky" and "NexStar Observer List" software helps plan observations.Michael Swanson's "NexStar Users Guide" (Amazon currently has the best price) is an invaluable aid. See my review.

Great introduction if you're prepared to do a litt
This is a great introduction to astronomy, pitched somewhere betwwen a popular science book and a basic textbook. Coverage includes theory of observing (the celestial globe and coordinates, strengths and weaknesses of observing in different wavelengths etc), solar system objects, star types and lifecyles, galaxies and cosmological issues (e.g. cosmological expansion and redshift) for a beginning audience. There is some maths but it's pretty basic, and questions at the end of each chapter to test your newly acquired knowledge.Inspired me to go a bit futher with Ian Morison's excellent Introduction to Astronomy and Cosmology, which explores the same ideas but in more depth and with more of the maths. Finding this one a bit of challenge, but getting there, and Moche definiteky deserves some of the credit.

A great beginner's telescope at a really great pri
The Celestron Travelscope is a great telescope for beginners. Light, compact, easy to assemble, at a very reasonable price! Great features come with it, a backpack for storage and transport, software, simple instructions, easy to set up. A great beginner's telescope for someone interested in Astronomy, and for a family. A starter telescope to get familiar and see if you really like the hobby before investing ten times the amount or more for a more sophisticated model.

Smart, Touching and Well Crafted
No agenda here. This is a really good film I just happened upon. You don't have to be an astronomy nerd to enjoy this because it's about so much more than that. A great story that didn't need over the top special affects. It's amazing they had no budget essentially and created such a good film.
