Just in my lifetime there has been an exponential growth in our knowledge of the universe. In my youth, in the early ‘60’s, it was still an open question, as to whether the universe was expanding, from a Big Bang, as George Gamow posited, or whether it was in a steady state, as Fred Hoyle advocated. That dispute is long in the rearview mirror, with Gamow’s Big Bang being repeatedly confirmed.Thomas Lucas directed this documentary which was released in 2017. The focus is on the people working for the European LSST (Large Synoptic Survey Telescope), built at Cerro Pachón, high in the desert of northern Chile, at about 9,000 ft. Despite some truly stunning graphics of our universe, it is important to remember that the LSST is not actually operational.Despite the claims of the title, the LSST does not appear to be designed to peer into the beginning of time, but perhaps HALF the beginning. From other sources, I’ve learned that some folks claim that they know what occurred within a fraction of a second of the big bang.The “UFF,” the Universal Fudge Factor, is what we called it in college. Couldn’t solve a math problem with the known variables. Invent a constant, the UFF, and voila, a perfect solution. There is an element of the UFF to the hypothesis concerning Dark Matter and Dark Energy. The documentary did not illuminate the darkness of our understanding. At least Professor Josh Friedman, director Dark Energy Survey, Fermilabs, University of Chicago stated that dark energy is the best current hypothesis for what is causing the universe to speed up. But is it energy associated with empty space or is it a new fundamental particle? He is not sure.Beth William, at the LSST states: “it is just jaw dropping that humans can take on these big questions…” I am in the amen corner with that comment. Speaking of which, a very long time ago, I read Thomas Merton’s “The Seven Story Mountain,” not once, but twice. I still recall his comment that perhaps the only thing that stopped god from destroying the earth and all the evil in it, is a few monks contemplating his (her?) existence.I sorta think the same way about those hearty souls who peer deep into the universe, taking on the big questions, making up for the telemarketers, the ambulance-chasing lawyers, the worthless politicians, et al. Good honest intellectually appealing work, a rarity.As for the documentary, with its beautiful graphics and shortage of illumination of the Darkness, be it, matter or energy, 4-stars.

The feature that I like the best is you can adjust it to make it longer so that it’s closer for me to see. It makes me read and see the map much easier.

If you're thinking about viewing this film, I recommend you go ahead and see it. The movie has a couple of early scenes with rather trashy humor (they concern the marketing of a new erectile dysfunction salve) which shouldn't have made Director Jodie Foster's cut, for they do no credit to the rest of the movie. However, the film eventually metamorphs into a pretty interesting modern morality play, one that sustains the suspenseful anxiety of a hostage situation right to the end. George Clooney and Julia Roberts are great (as usual), and other parts are also well played. I can't say it is a great movie, but overall I found it very enjoyable.

Update:Upon reading the original review, Vanmass took it upon themselves to send me an upgraded version of this mount, not once but twice, to try and make this right. They have stayed in constant contact with me to make sure their new products are meeting my needs, and not in the way that seems like they're hounding me, more like they're checking in because they care about their reputation. That's refreshing in a world of cheap generic products, with people trying to sneak by phony merchandise online. Vanmass is certainly not like them, and I will be a customer for life. This air purifier was working overtime with the fireworks residue coming into my 6th floor apartment...Cleaned the air and the odor and it went from red light back to a white light every time it cleared it out... It displayed the air quality in numbers... it was fascinating to see.!

Good product. Good sounds. Compact and easy for travel. The buttons are very hard to see so I had to make a label to see thembetter. But still a good product.

I just used the light at a recital. It worked flawlessly! The light was “on” for 1,5 hours. There was still plenty of battery left. The light was bright and wide enough to see 3 pages at a time. Great product!

I have this light in my bathroom for those late night trips without turning on a light. It works great and the charge lasts a long time. I finally charged after a couple months of use - though the light was still working.
