Works Pretty Good IMO
The controls takes a bit of a learning curve, and the "Inception trick" should have been easier to figure out. (Point Gimble Down after pressing mode button 4 times, then hold switch to either side.) Otherwise works great, video is very steady. I'm satisfied with this product.

The Nest Learning Thermostat Threw Me a Learning C
I actually purchased my Nest at a reduced rate with instant rebate back in July. Didn't really need to "test" it out until very recently as my house is the size of a postage stamp and heats up or cools down rather quickly. I purchased this unit because even though I don't have central air yet, I DO have a furnace that runs for about 7 months of the year give or take- as I live in Minnesota. It's not cheap to have to heat a home for so many months of the year and traditional timers are really a pain. I was constantly having to override my settings due to my work schedule (two jobs). After reviewing various specs/features - I settled on The Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd Generation).I will be honest, my start with the Nest Learning Thermostat came with an unintended learning curve. It was initially installed in July, but my furnace tune-up was only a few weeks ago. It began acting strangely immediately after my furnace tune-up. Came home to an 80 degree house and the thermostat had been set at 66- all this on the same day I had the tune up. The temp was not left at 80 - but the tech had turned it up to 81 to test out the furnace. Only problem is, it wouldn't turn off. Turning the thermostat down to 60 didn't work. Turning it OFF also didn't work. My furnace ran and ran...with no indication of it being on in the Nest App or the display for an entire day and spotty connections over the next few days. Three different service techs from local energy company tried to troubleshoot - and had collectively conferred with another four techs. The message to me - was to dump the Nest, they are nothing but trouble for their techs to service and that my house so small that the numbers were being thrown off (ridiculous logic)- or that I had a dud unit and that is why they collectively hate the Nest.Round and round I went...to techs and supervisors thru energy company, Youtube videos, you name it. Finally one tech said, I think you might need a C Wire (Common Wire), even though Nest advises this isn't needed. To clarify though, Nest does "some" users may need to install one so that the rechargeable faceplate will register data correctly and hold a charge. My energy company techs said, sorry we don't install wires (more ridiculousness) - plus we think the problem is the Nest anyway. I was on the verge of whipping this thing out into the middle of the street or driving over it repeatedly to give it a well deserved and glorious end.But...instead, I called Nest directly. More troubleshooting and very knowledgeable techs confirmed - that I MAY indeed need this wire. The talked me thru how to verify on my own that this wire was in fact missing. They then told me quite simply - they will PAY to have this installed by reimbursing me the cost. They even sent me a list of 5-star rated heating/cooling/electric companies with certified Nest Pros and provided me a list along with their phone numbers to call. They advised if it was over a certain dollar amount or if my system was in fact one of the minute number of systems that wasn't compatible - then they would also refund me what I paid for the Nest. I was hoping my system WAS compatible as my furnace is 6 years old and I have 100 amp service. I was able to get a tech from recommended company out next day. The "C" wire was installed, my invoice was approved by Nest within minutes after I emailed my invoice. (check will come in 4 to 6 weeks)I am still learning all of the features this unit has and am thus far very happy I decided to give Nest the chance it deserves and am supremely happy that this company is that adamant about their product. They begged me to give them a chance and to not give up on them. I gave them that chance and am very pleased by the customer service and the product. I hope long term that this unit is able to truly provide the peace of mind and cost savings it advertises and am really looking forward to using this device.
