The base is rechargeable, and it comes with a *custom* USB charging cord (took one star).If it matters to you, this is not a "scale" representation of the solar system - it's more of a stylized version, with all the planets but not with accurate relative spacing.

This book is one of the best books I've ever read. I've taught the Solar System to students for 5-6 years. I'm not an expert by any means, but I know a fair amount about space, the planets etc. Basically every page in this book taught me something I didn't know. It is full of beautiful images. It is really well written, easy to understand, but full of information about Space. I think this is the first amazon review I've ever written, but I felt compelled to do so. I've read this book to my grade 6 science class and to my daughter. I'm on the third go-around. It truly makes you think about space and the planets. Can't recommend it enough for the curious young astronomer.

We bought this telescope for our granddaughter. She had shown an interest in the stars and planets and we wanted to help encourage her interest. It was easy to set up. She likes that she can capture what she is watching on her phone and show her friends at school. We have also had fun looking at the moon with her and making memories! It is great for beginners and easy to use!

I received the telescope in a timely manner. It’s very user friendly for beginners. My husband uses it up to our camp and was surprised at how clear the stars and planets were. We haven’t had any issues thus far, so I can’t comment on how their customer service is.

What a cool product! I love the fact sheet it comes with that can be colored as well. The information given is easy to understand and pretty cool. The arms that hold the planets swivel too.. They only negative I would say is that it needs to have a stand for the plants to sit on while painting. It is a little difficult to hold the tiny pole while painting.

This telescope is a great choice for beginners as a 'starter scope'. Even if you end up falling in love with the hobby and later opt to spend a lot more money for a fancy computerized telescope (I have a NexStar 6 SE), it's still nice to have something small, lightweight and cheap to toss into the car if you are going for a last-minute trip and don't want the hassle of bringing your expensive equipment. Or if you want something for the kids to play with and don't want them to break your investment! Can you see the planets with this? Certainly. The most impressive views will be rings of Saturn and Jupiter with its moons. Is this a good choice for astrophotography? Definitely not. You'll need a much more expensive scope for that, and taking pictures through a telescope is a lot more difficult than it might sound. What about quality of the lenses? Well these are pretty cheap and plastic feeling but they get the job done. You can buy better ones later in a kit but it probably isn't going to change your capabilities in any major way. Overall this is a great portable amateur's telescope that can be tucked away in a closet when not in use but has enough optical power to see planets and their major features (rings, moons).
