Love Guy Ottewell's Astronomical Calendar
I've been using Guy Ottewell's Astronomical Calendar for decades now. Between teaching astronomy, being an amateur astronomer and the editor for a local astronomical society, it has always been my go-to source for all things we can see in the sky. It is very informative with great illustrations that help explain and guide you to what you can expect to see in the nighttime sky. I was thrilled to see it back in print this year and enjoy the larger print format making it easier to read. Looking forward to enjoying the cosmic sights in 2023!Marcy Curran

A Lot of Information
This new fourth edition is the best so far. It doesn't hit much on the absolute basics. For that I would recommend Dikinson's "Night Watch" which is designed for the beginner. This book is a a brief introduction of basics, but is intended for amateur astronomers who wish to go take their hobby to the next steps. This book gives a good overview of pretty much all of the equipment an amateur would use, and imparts a good knowledge base in order to make informed buying decisions of that equipment. It also gives the basic instructions on how to use some of this equipment. There are MANY photos which help in the authors descriptions of various aspects of astronomy and the equipment. Putting together a book like this is no small feat. There is a good amount of depth to each chapter. If you start with "Nightwatch", and follow up with this book, you will gain A LOT of knowledge about amateur astronomy, and how to apply that knowledge whether you use your eyes alone, or wish to start purchasing equipment to aid you further.Nightwatch, The Backyard Astronomers Guide, and a good set of star charts, and your eyes are all you will need to gain the necessary knowledge base to put this hobby into real action. You will most likely be bitten by the equipment bug and start buying astronomy "toys." This book will help you in that regard as well teaching you what to buy based on your expanding interests.Every amateur astronomer should have a copy of this book to aid them on their lifelong hobby.

Way more powerful than it claims
This is an example of a product which claims to be much less powerful than it actually is only to appease the law. It claims to be less than 5mw but is closer to 80mw. It's insanely bright and the beam is perfect to be used for astronomy. Do not use indoors or around anything reflective as this laser can cause permanent eye damage. Laser safety goggles recommended. Sure beats the 3mw lasers I grew up with.

Awesome Read
Talk about a great book. It was exactly what I was expecting. The book is very well laid out and is filled with all the information a beginner would need to know about Astronomy. The size of the book makes is convenient for carrying it around. It contains everything from the make up of each planet to recommendations on where else to get information from. If you are a person is newly interested or would like to know more about what is this whole Space is all about, pick this book up. You will not be disappointed.

Engaging and informative to encourage creativity
Constellations for Kids is an engaging resource for children and parents. The illustrations provide both the constellation outline and the full animation, making it relatable to children as they can better visualize the dynamic characters in the night sky. The stories associated with each are written in language that encourages deeper inquiry. This book could be used as a fun tool to engage creative story building, mythology, and astronomy and is adaptable to many ages. The glossary is a useful addition, too.

Astronomy friend highly recommended for our 6 yr o
Our granddaughter was really excited. This was recommended to us by a friend who is an astronomer. He said it's a very good model for children to start with. We felt that all the components that came with this will add to her excitement as she uses it. Great buy for what it includes. Highly recommend.

Very happy!
I have had this telescope now for about four months. I have been happy with it. The align software works well. I have had many exciting moments with my wife and children showing them various sky objects. Having this telescope has renewed my love for astronomy. Would definitely recommend to any serious sky observer!

Everybody loves these
The 15x70 Skymaster is an amazing value...This is big and bulky but light in weight. But you need big optics to gather the most light. This performs way above this price point. I've purchased several as gifts for my friends who live on the water and they use them to watch boats and the opposite shore line. My son borrowed mine and never returned it...he uses it for astronomy instead of his telescope. He says he can see the space station. Everybody loves these. Great gift idea.
