Loads of fun. Grandkid approved!
I ordered this kids metal detector with the hopes of using it to find hidden treasure, and so far, I have yet to find any treasure. But that's not the fault of this little metal detector; I don't have any buried treasure on my half-acre. I have found lots and lots of rusty hardware, badly damaged tools, and a few dog tags (like for dogs, not soldiers), and it alerted me to a few things that were deeper than I wanted to dig. Perhaps there is treasure, but my grandson and I don't want to dig too deep. We placed my gold ring in the grass, and it detected it (thankfully). The detector was easy to assemble, the instructions were clear, and in no time at all, we started searching for that treasure. It is light enough not to get tired of holding it and easy to maneuver. The screen brightness is adjustable and readable even in daylight. The shaft length has 6-inches of adjustment to accommodate people of varying heights. Supposedly you can put the coil in shallow water. However, I did not have any puddles to test that claim. We'll assume that it can go in shallow water, and if and when I test that and if it breaks, I will update this review.
Here's what I like:
*3 detection modes and alert tones
*Display backlighting is adjustable
*Display has pictures to aid younger kids in reading it
*Can alert to Ferrous, nonferrous, and precious metals ( we haven't found any of that...yet)
*It has an adjustable length
*IP68-rated waterproof coil
*Perfect for children (and grandpa)
*Backpack and dig tools included
Here's what I didn't care for:
*The "disc button" didn't seem to ignore as the manual says. Perhaps we should have used it differently.
*The first impression was, "this is a toy. How am I going to find treasure?"
*Seems somewhat delicate. Time will tell.
In conclusion, I am impressed by this little metal detector. I was skeptical about how it would work, and even though we found no treasure, we had a blast using it. And, after all, that is what's most important. On second thought, perhaps the treasure is the detector itself...I bet my grandson thinks so!
