The connection to the RCC weather station is essential for the operation of all functions.
This is my first weather station and my main purpose in purchasing it was to have an accurate thermostat in my living space as my heating and air conditioning thermostat settings are suggestions at best. (They're very old, with levers that you can manually adjust anywhere from five degrees to maybe a millimeter wide, and they don't work well.) So the internal temperature and humidity readings measured by the primary weather station itself are great. And the clock is great after realizing that the on/off setting in the time section was for Daylight Saving Time and not for any alarm. Now the clock keeps correct time without switching to anything other than what I entered in the middle of the night. I think the user manual could be a bit clearer. When we talk about the clock setting itself in the middle of the night, it's because the secondary sensor unit, which is supposed to be in contact with a weather tower, can only connect every now and then in my area, maybe once at night. This means that the symbol for outside temperature, humidity and weather conditions is never correct. If the weather station is deployed in an area with good connection to a weather tower, it will constantly update everything throughout the day. Apparently I just live in a troubled neighborhood. This gives me the correct time, date, and indoor temperature, humidity, and moon phase, which is pretty decent, but the outdoor temperature, humidity, and weather conditions are imprecise. For two days it showed the symbol for rain when it was completely sunny and dry. Usually it just seems to show clouds regardless of what's happening outside. So it seems to be working as it's supposed to if you have a local weather station's signal to keep it up to date. The display itself is nice, big black numbers on a blue background, with an automatic dimming feature for the intensity of the backlight compared to the light in your room. Overall, I recommend the weather station, but it may not work well in some areas.
