Window to see a whole new dimension... Literally literally...
Originally wanted a binocular microscope, but then I started looking at c-mount adapters to have a phone attached and it was going to be a bit too much. This Digital Microscope will not get you to the cellular level, but its near focus and magnification are very good for general inspections. It's compact, has a proper base and has a decently sized screen.Initially I thought I'd use this for when I am soldering small components onto PCBs, but I see that'd probably damage the lens with the flux smoke. It's good for general soldering inspection and recording. The clear acrylic guard doesn't seem to be removable and serves to indicate the minimum focus distance. The ability to connect the camera to a large desktop screen is definitely a big selling point. The screen it comes with is very clear and it a decent size, but when you have more than one person looking at it, you'd want a bigger screen. However, when you are in that mode, the image is piped to the computer and the built-in display is blacked out (only reads "PC Camera"). Connecting it was really easy as it's detected as an external camera just like a webcam would. So I can also see cases where we'd want to present something on Zoom (bonus points) without having to record it and the load the image onto a slide deck. The manual it comes with says that on a Mac you should use "Photo Booth" to capture stills. Since it's detected as an external camera like a webcam, you can use QuickTime to capture videos or any other application for image capture or video recording.I also noticed I can adjust the image size with a single hand. While moving the subject around with the other. I can bring the camera up and down (there is no "zoom", so the lift and lower the camera with the included base adjustments) at the same time that you adjust the focus. What I was missing is some type of clamp on the base itself. In a full size microscope, the table has X-Y granular movements. But this made of solid aluminum (still light) and it looks I can tap it to add a small table and clamps.Optics are pretty good. If you are viewing something that's too shaky you'd notice a "jello effect" of the image (rolling shutter). That's not a big deal for most use cases, but worth mentioning. It comes with a 32GB micro SD memory card! And its batteries come with a charge, which means you can use it out of the box.Important to mention that the lights it comes with are really good and that the separate remote is crucial for being able to trigger an image/video capture without making the whole assembly move.Does not include a micro-SD-to-SD adapter (for using an SD card reader), but the same cable that is used for turning the microscope into a "PC Camera", can double as a Mass Storage Device.Overall, quite impressed.
