I placed a 1.5 mm object on the base and was able to get close enough to max out the fine adjustment and focus close. The closest I could get to the object was 14.5mm from the large light ring to the base (13mm from the object). The maximum calculated magnification on the supplied screen is 85.56 times magnification. For its use cases, this is more than enough but nowhere near the advertised1200 times magnification. After 100 times magnification you will need a lab microscope. Zooming out, to max with a distance of 85.75mm from base to large light ring, the minimum magnification is 33.33mm. I use this to repair motherboards and video cards which contain components under 2mm. The sceen is quite clear and the adjustable lighting provides ample light.
