Metal detector is fine. Accessories are crap.
I haven't actually taken the detector out to the beach yet because as I was preparing to go, the headphones slipped off my bed and fell three feet to the thickly carpeted floor, breaking instantly and completely. So as far as I can tell from testing, the detector is fine. The headphones are as delicate as spun glass. The sound wasn't great, but you don't need high fidelity for this. You control the volume on the detector through the headphones--it's incredibly loud and there is no volume control on the device itself. So I am waiting for new--hopefully sturdier--headphones with inline volume control. The detector also came with a small open bag made of clear plastic and nylon with a velcro band. I couldn't see that it was clearly suited for any use, so I threw it away. And there is a cover for the detection plate, but the instructions don't tell you how--or when or why--to put it on. So in summary: detector good, accessories bad.
