Clear daytime photos; motion detection does a good job
This is the fifth trail camera I've owned, so I have some experience with different versions. This one probably has the best user manual I've seen - not only is it a good size and the print is big enough to read without a magnifying glass, it's well written. But even then, the manual is hardly needed - I adjusted most of the settings on the camera after inserting the battery and memory card without having to read the manual, except for a few settings (to make sure I knew what they meant). It takes very good photos and video - I've posted examples of both. It hasn't set off the detector at night yet. But even at medium sensitivity during the day, it did pick up a cat walking by about 20-25 feet from the camera. I have some other cameras that sometimes don't trigger as reliably when a human walks by. So high marks on sensitivity and clarity of photos and video - at least in the light. The mic may not be as sensitive on this camera as some others, but then it doesn't seem to pick up any significant wind noise either - which I think is a good thing. Just note that you may need to turn the volume up if you're looking for things that aren't too close to the camera. Similar to other cameras of this type, I set it to take 3 photos and then video. And in that kind of setting, it takes the photos first and THEN starts recording. So if you want to be more on video and record earlier, take a photo and then a video, or just set it for video. I added a photo and a video showing when the photo was first taken and you can see the video started later (assuming there were two photos in between). But the detector triggering seems to happen pretty early and works well. On that note, and helpfully, this camera didn't trip up every time the wind blew the leaves off trees like it did with another camera I have. So this one - so far anyway - has only captured people and animals walking, not every movement that happens to happen in the frame, which is nice. Then I don't have to sift through hundreds of photos and videos of "leaves moving on the trees" to find the ones that have something important on them. I don't have any infrared photos or videos yet - I was hoping to catch coyotes/pheasants/opossums/rabbits since we have those coming through our property in other areas. No luck yet, but if/when I do I'll post and update the review to include that experience. Very good camera so far. Time will tell how it performs in more severe weather conditions and in infrared.
