I’ve been a fan of K&F Filters, and many of their other photographic products, for some time now, and have come to appreciate the consistency and the quality of the brand. The majority of my lenses live their lives with a K&F Concept UV protective filter on their front element. I have done enough testing of the transmittance and sharpness of K&F filters in the past that I now consider them a trusted brand; I feel confident in their quality. And that’s the point, right? Find a supplier you can trust to deliver exceptional quality. I use polarizing filters extensively, much more often than not. They are a multi-purpose filter, allowing the user to add contrast, saturation, reduce glare and reflections and to some extent, because they add neutral density, control exposure. There’s hardly any reason not to use them, other than in low light situations. Another advantage in the 82mm size, and for that matter, most sizes, is it’s cost benefit; using step-up rings, it can accommodate a number of lenses that take a smaller filter size. This holds true for any size filter. In practical terms, the K&F Concept 82mm Polarizing filter can be used on lenses with filter sizes from 77mm on down with appropriate step-up rings; no need to buy a separate polarizer for each of your lenses. The filter is solidly made of aircraft aluminum and is typical of the high-quality of K&F Concept filters generally. Dampening of the outer ring is smooth and has the resistance necessary to keep a setting securely in place. Because there is no stop on a CPL, it’s necessary, when adjusting it, to turn it in the same direction you would when attaching it, so as not to inadvertently loosen the filter proper from the lens. K&F Concept uses AGC glass, formerly the Asahi Glass company, a Japanese company that is the largest glass manufacturing company in the world. They further assert that there are 24 multi-layer, anti-reflective coatings on each side of the glass, important for reducing internal lens reflections. In my testes the filter performed true to the seller’s claims. It does polarize the light and the colors seemed “true,” or at least to the extent inherent in the reproductive capabilities of a digital sensor, so effected by camera settings and manufacturer introduced sharpening and dynamic range capabilities. In other words, “True Colors” is subjective. In addition, I didn’t notice any reduction in sharpness when using the filter. The physical attributes of the filter are its relative lightweight, along with facetted chines on the circumference of the polarization ring, for grip. I use an 82mm VND with the CPL filter, and the threaded front of the filter, also 82mm, provides plenty of depth for the secure attachment of the stacked filter. The K&F front lens cap provided with the filter is a match in quality to any pinch type OEM lens caps I own. The pinching levers are easy to use, firmly spring-loaded, and provide a firm grip to the filter or the lens to which its attached. I also appreciate that the front threads of the CPL match those of the filter size, 82mm, allowing for the use of standard OEM accessories, for example, a lens shade. The filter is supplied with the lens cap, an adjustable lanyard, a high-quality microfiber lens cleaning cloth and a plastic storage case. K&F Concept provides plenty of value for your money and they don’t cut corners.
