K&F Concept 72MM UV Filter - HD Ultraviolet Filters Scratch-resistant Lens Protector Protection Filters with Lens Cap Cleaning Cloth for DSLR Cameras (Nano-X Series)
While helpful in film photography to remove colour casts, UV filters are no longer necessary for image quality for most consumer digital sensors as the sensor stack has a UV filter installed (unless modified or made for astrophotography). On the other hand, even for digital, UV filters are commonly used as lens protectors. While I don't leave protective filters on my lenses as a rule, I do use a UV filter in adverse conditions (wet, dusty, dirty).
This filter offers excellent transparency:
- I can't detect any anomalies in the glass
- No discernible degradation of image quality
- No discernible coloration
- Low reflectivity coatings that are formulated for easy cleaning and scratch resistance
- Well-formed ring and threads
- Satisfactorily thin form-factor
- Nicely anodized ring
- Knurling helps with installation and removal
- Hard case
- 72mm lens cap, lanyard and microfiber cloth add value
Misses?
- There is no label on the filter case. Since I don't like to carry boxes, I'll make my own label.
- The filter case is a bit big as it is designed to hold the filter with lens cap mounted. I'm usually looking for ways to make my kit smaller.
- The added items are a bit of a drag on the value proposition if shopping simply for a good filter.
Not huge misses but worth noting.
I have had several K&F products over the years. Well designed and excellent attention to detail, the quality has never disappointed. This is no exception. Worth considering. Recommended accordingly.
