I love macro photography and recently brought a regular speedlight (albeit a compact one) so that I could take it around with me; a bit of a pain, if I'm honest, with having the diffuser on it and trying to get the best light. Then I noticed this one a month after, and it was even cheaper, so I thought I would try it.I actually have 2 macro lenses over the years, a Nikon F mount and a Nikon Z mount, and there is an important thing you need to do with the Z mount lens; do not mount the flash to the lens part, which moves in and out, attach it with a larger adapter to the outer case. This is because it will put undue pressure on the lens and can result in lens motor failure. I did a lot of research on that, so I thought you should know.Loved the fact that it came with so many adapters, as I was a bit worried I was going to have to find some to fit my lenses.The light is beautifully even that comes out of it and really makes your picture pop, and the cable to the main unit is soft and flexible and doesn't pull against front. Very simple controls on the back to adjust the power, and so far, I've only needed the lowest setting for macro work, although I'm sure the higher setting will come in useful for portraits (not tried that yet).

I like this but the back lens cap to the macro did not fit the macro.

This is such a cool little macro lens! I bought it specifically for taking photos to upload to iNaturalist, and so far it's been great. I didn't think much about the light that comes with it when I ordered it, but I actually really like it and use it often.There's just one thing that keeps it from being perfect--there's no lens cap! The wide angle lens has a cap, and the wide angle fits over the macro, but if you're like me and are only interested in the macro (and not carrying around the bulky wide angle) you're out of luck. I can't slip the lens in my pocket when I'm not using it (and I'm constantly taking it on and off my phone on my nature walks) and that drives me nuts.If the macro had a lens cap it'd be 5 stars for sure.

Nikon always makes great lense, and this is no exception. Photos are sharp and clear from centers to edges. The macro function works well, letting you get very close to the subject. Focus is fast, and at f2.8 you can do lots of low light work with some creamy bokeh. This is a Z mount lens so it will only work on a Mirrorless nikon.

Likes: Beautiful sharp lens even wide open, Amazing VR, light and balances well on the Z7, versatile for Macro, portrait and even landscapes.Dislikes: Noisy focusing and focus breathing and hunting a bit but this would perfectly normal for a macro lens that switches between magnification ratios.Overall the best macro lens i have used and am very impressed.

I got this as a recommendation from a close friend who is also a photographer! I got it the other day and I love it. No it won’t replace my Nikon with my macro lens but this is great to carry around just in case I want to take a photo! I would definitely recommend.

So far, I have tested only the macro mode of this lens, and with that I am very pleased. This well made Tamron lens produces very pleasing results on a grandkid's face using Minolta 7D and wireless flash - actually beautiful results! Good compatibility with my 7D and wireless flash. Great aperature control yielding sharp focus of all parts of the head while background Christmas tree is reduced to soft out of focus sparkles (large aperture and high speed shutter)! This lens is worth its price for its macro mode only. Anxiously awaiting opportunites to test the quality of the 300mm reach of this lens on my backyard birds!

I'm happy to finally find a great product and a more than affordable price. It's solid, easy to use and adjust; and it perfectly holds my Nikon D810 with a heavy telephoto lens.
