Great Buy
I was trying to decide if I wanted to get the Canon Speedlight or something similar. I saw a advertisement in a photo magazine for the Sigma EF-610 Super Electronic Flash for my Canon EOS 7D. The review said it was equal to the Canon product in many ways, and at about half the price. Always looking for a great buy, and knowning Sigma products from lenses I have from that fine company, I decided to go with the Sigma flash. I am not disappointed. Oh the Canon had some extra features , yet I'm very satisfied with the Sigma flas. Another great bargain from an Amazon associate.

Hoya + Sigma 50/1.4 (Art)

So good
The 1/4 was perfect for my Sigma 18-35 1.8 + bmpcc4k. It takes the digital sharpness off and adds a really nice glow on light sources. Love it!

Worth Every Penny
I'd consider myself as a serous hobbyist or advanced amateur. I recently upgraded my gear to Nikon D7000 + Sigma 17-50 OS HSM + Sigma 70-200 OS HSM. Bought two of these filters (Hoya 77mm HMC UV Digital Slim Frame Multi-Coated Glass Filter) to protect these expensive lenses from beginning. I bought them at two different times within two weeks. First one came in little over a week ago and the second one came in today. Here are some common things which pleased me when I got my hands on it for the first time.* Both the filters came in real good condition. There were no visible smudges, scratches or loose glass on them and the frame is metal.* They screw on perfectly on both the lenses.* The lens caps snap on the filters perfectly. Both my lenses are Sigma and I haven't tested it with a Nikon lens cap.I've done some testing on both the filters using both my lenses. I didn't do it in a lab condition nor did I do any pixel peeping. Had both the tests in everyday situations and did a basic comparison with 100% zoom in Adobe Camera RAW with the RAW files. Let me make the conclusion first, before even diving into the test results. The filter is an excellent buy for the price or even more (I got them for $19.97 and $23.98 and the seller was Gigabargain with Amazon Prime). I haven't used any expensive filters before and hence don't know what they offer more than what this one offers. I'd definitely recommend it to people. I give five stars for the product.Test Setup1: - Nikon D7000 + Sigma 17-50. - Shot outdoors handheld with various focal lengths (17mm - 50mm) and appertures (f/2.8 - f/16). - Auto White Balance, ISO 200, Matrix Metering, Single Point Auto Focus, Apperture Priority Mode. Shot in RAW and compared the files in Adobe Camera RAWObservations:* There is no visible difference in image quality and color.* Sharpness was the same with filter on and off.* Putting on the filter didn't change any of the variable exposure parameters (like shutter speed)* Pictures taken with the filter on were slightly brighter (may be a 1/3 stop). I don't know if it's the camera trying to compensate for the light lost by using the filter.* When shot in cloudy condition, some of the pictures taken with filter on had a slightly warm tint especially on green grass. It was negligible though. A -5 tint adjustment in Camera RAW took care of this.* The results were consistent throughout the entire focal lengths* No vignetting is noticed.Test Setup2: - Nikon D7000 + Sigma 70-200 - Shot in kitchen under tungsten light on a tripod. Used a remote shutter release with mirror up mode for maximum stability. Shot with various focal lengths (70mm - 200mm) and apertures (f/2.8 - f/16). Shutter speed varied from 1/8 seconds to 4 seconds. -Tungsten White Balance, ISO 400, Matrix Metering, Single Point Auto Focus, Aperture Priority Mode. Shot in RAW and compared the files in Adobe Camera RAWObservations:* There is no visible difference in image quality and color.* Sharpness was the same with both filter on and off. In fact there was a slightly better sharpness at f/4.0 with filter on. Again these were long exposure shots (shutter speed from 1/8 seconds to 4 seconds). So the soft focus I noticed without the filter could be due to slight camera shake. The point is pictures taken with the filter on were as good as ones without filter in terms of sharpness and color.* Putting on the filter didn't change any of the variable exposure parameters (like shutter speed)* I did not find the difference in brightness I noticed with the other lense.* I also did not find any difference in tint.* The results were consistent throughout the entire focal lengths* No vignetting is noticed.* There was no trouble with auto focus in low light with focus assist beam from camera. There was not a single miss in ten consicutive attempts in low light.* RAW image files with the filter on were 0.01 - 0.08 MB larger than ones without filter for different apertures (Exaple 10.81 MB v/s 10.82 MB).So far everything is good and to my satisfaction. Here are a couple negatives I noticed. Those are never bothersome to me considering the pros it offers at such price.* I saw some reviews mentioning the filter getting unwind or loose from the lens in few days. I noticed it once with my first filter on the 17-50 lens a couple days ago but the filter was not properly tight on the lens in the first place. I didn't tighten it well because I wanted to mount and unmount it frequently for for testing. Now that I got both the filters and I tightened both of them properly and permantently on two lenses, I'll post an update if it happens again in few days. Even if it happens, it's not much of a task to check and tighten it in every few days if needed. In fact I'd recommend checking the gear properly each time when you take it out of the bag.* The filters are extremely difficult to wipe clean to our satisfaction. Again it's the same with any multi coted pieced of glass including eyeglasses.Hope this helps someone who is currently hunting for a good inexpensive filter.
