This little camera is light weight and easy to use. We connected the app right away and love that feature of being able to use your phone to see what’s recording. Can’t wait to try it out in the water.

Vanbar Trailcam, Model D500This camera is well thought out and manufactured well.I am impressed with the gasketed case and the ease of use and security of the enclosure latching devices.  There is a set of tabs that will accept a padlock if you are concerned someone might tamper with your camera or storage card.  The camera comes with a full set of hardware to mount it permanently to a building, tree or support structure.  It also comes with a beefy strap that attaches to trees up to 32” in diameter.  That is a good-sized tree unless you are deep in the forest. With either mounting method used, the memory card can be removed without unmounting the camera assembly.  Simply open the front and pop out the card.  I don’t have a micro-SD reader, so I just used the supplied USB/MiniUSB cable to upload the photos directly to my laptop.I don’t have any experience with trail cams, because this is the first one I have ever owned.  It was very intuitive and quick to go through the set-up process.  Even the 2 dozen entries on the built-in menu were easy to follow using the provided instructions.  My instructions stated that the D500 would only handle up to 32 GB memory card.  It actually arrived with a 64 GB card installed.  It seems to be working just fine.  Took a couple dozen of photos and videos. I tried indoors with normal lighting and outdoors in a relatively dark area.  The photo quality was quite good for both.  I can’t compare photo quality to other cameras of this type, but I selected 8 MB out of a range from 5 to 32 – and felt the resolution was very acceptable.  You can also select the resolution of the videos.  To optimize the screen you can do a rather basic focus length or just leave it on automatic if you are not sure where your subjects will appear.  It requires 8 AA batteries as noted on the package.   Two other options are available.  If you are using this near a structure with electricity, a standard USB charger will keep it running.  Also, if you want to use a solar power supply, there is an input jack for that.  A USB cord is supplied but not a USB power supply or a Solar power device.  All in all, a very easy to use and functional device.

Got these for my 4 and 8 year old to take photos and videos. They are super easy to use, well made and I they seem to love them. We are hoping to attach them to their ski helmets this year so they can video while skiing! Only down side, resolution isn't great indoors for photos, no flash. You also need a microSD card if you want to take longer than 6 minutes of video. Luckily we found 10 dollar 16gb cards that will allow for 1200 minutes of video. Excited to see how they work skiing!
