I have 2 Dropcams streaming my dogs during the day. They're very amusing and give very good video playback. I pay the $10/month DVR-and-7-day-storage fee to Dropcam for just the main dog sleeping location so I only have live playback for the second Dropcam. Dropcam's DVR playback UI and sever-side motion detection is first-rate.I then saw the Arlo cameras and was very intrigued by their battery powered capability. I wanted live streaming of my front door and backyard for security purposes but I didn't have an easy way to solve the power problem for Dropcam. I also wasn't thrilled with paying Dropcam's extra $10/month x 2 for periodic security needs. But then came Arlo!My first Arlo camera was super easy to setup and install. I used 3M command to stick the included magnetic base to my front door frame and immediately had playback of events when the mailman comes, UPS delivery, when my dog walker leaves, etc. It was great! So I quickly got a second Arlo camera for the backyard for security monitoring (and was surprised to also see how often the dogs go thru the dog door to patrol the backyard). Arlo's motion-triggered capture works great for this security/periodic monitoring behavior. I'm getting about 10-15 events from each camera per day and have used

Three weeks in and I am surprisingly pleased with little Arlo. I did a bake off vs. Dropcam and while Dropcam is a more refined product in most ways, the truly cordless install and free storage made Arlo the better call. Few specific observations:Positives:1. I've had no battery issues so far. Three weeks in, recording 30-50 10 second snippets a day, I'm still at three bars on the battery meter.2. Setup and install are a breeze. I have no power on the porch so mounting a Dropcam would have been a serious pain.3. Motion detection seems solid - I'm pointing at a sidewalk and I get few false start up from passing cars and seem to catch all the pedestrian traffic.4. I really like the fact that its got the motion sensor. Dropcam ran all the time and I had some concerns with all the bandwidth I was using.5. Free storage is awesome!Issues:1. It takes a good 8-10 second to get a live view. From the app you need to fire up the app, tap the image to wake the camera and then wait for the camera to get going. At minimum, I'd like an option to have the camera wake up any time I open the app or web site to cut a few seconds.2. Similar to above, I can always see that I'm missing the first few seconds of footage because of start up time.3. Image quality - esp. at night - is not as good as Dropcam.Basically - make start up faster! But net-net very happy, especially given that this is a v1 product. Nice job.

This product is really easy to setup and the fact you can store your videos for free up to 7 days is the reason I purchased a 2nd one. Unlike Dropcam where you have to pay for video storage and dont have the options like Arlo has. You also have full control of your videos that have been recorded. Great product! Especially for those of us that have grandparents (or no very little about technology) that want new gadgets like this but have no idea to use them. This product is easy enough for them to use as well.. ;)

I was pleasantly surprised when seeing the Arlo advertisement. The wireless feature was impressive. It allowed me to install anywhere outdoor without a power line. That frees up installation cost and headache. Another good feature is water proof. There are not that many brands with water proof camera. For example, Dropcam is not. Dropcam user has to buy an extra case to repel water. In addition of wireless and water proof, Arlo gives free video cloud storage with no monthly fee. Above features persuaded me that Arlo is the best choice in today’s market. I have been satisfied in last 4 weeks of ownership. Battery is still good. I was able to stream video to my iPhone for motion detected clip. For next release expectation, I wonder when Arlo will include audio feature? By that time, I will buy the new release for my mother-in-law, so we can not only secure her safety, but also talk to each other when needed.

I have purchased several of these for use with the WINK system. Imagine, a controller for $50 that can control your entire house for illumination, A/C control, Dropcam integration. A total security system.I have a water sensor around the water heater that will detect a leak. Also, I placed one at the bottom of the A/C closet. Got rid of dropcam camera and my daughter in Wisconsin bought me an Amcrest camera and it was so easy to set up and Dominic Parker at Amcrest helped with the finishing touch for the complete set up package. I have a large view of my driveway and street in front of the house. Tech help at Amcrest is the best. I will be informing my camera friends about Amcrest.

This little guy has been great. The video is high quality and the mic is far more sensitive than I thought possible in a webcam, especially one this size (my wife was calling to me from across the house and this thing picked it up). I haven't used it a ton so I can't speak to its durability, but it's been reliable so far. It's also surprisingly stable despite not having any clamp mechanism. I wouldn't go out of my way to test that, but with everyday bumping and jostling of desk/monitors it has yet to move at all much less fall.

For the price an excellent product! Before used a dropcam but it could not do half what this cam can. Especially like the activity zone for the alerts. May have to buy more.
