Perfect Flash
I bought this flash to use with my Nikon D70. I wanted a flash with plenty of power and flexibility, but smart enough to handle caluation of exposure when I just wanted to shoot. I was not disappointed. This flash works hand-in-glove with other elements of the Nikon system. When connected to the hot-shoe of my D70 the camera and flash instantly recognize each other. The default "TTL" mode (Through The Lens) gives consistantly well-exposed photos. If anything, the camera and flash tend to want to underexpose just a bit, but you can easily use the flash compensation to fix this. It appears that the Nikon folks are going for a more natural-light exposure, while I prefer a brighter picture. I usually set the flash to +2/3 and am always happy with the results. The SB-800 has many flash modes that can be used by the creative photographer for different situations. They include 2 TTL modes, auto-aperature mode, manual mode, and a repeating flash mode. The RPT mode lets you set the flash power and frequency in Hz and the flash repeatedly fires during the exposure. Great for experimentation. The flash head tilts to 90 degrees straight up, and swings completely around to 180 degrees - backwards. It has a red focus-assist lamp which works wonderfully. The SB-800 comes with a number of accessories that come at an additional price for many other flashes. An extra battery attachment is included, which decreases the flash recycle time. A flash diffuser dome is also included to give a softer lighting effect. Two light filters are included to match the flash to background lighting for more natural white balance settings. They even include a nice padded case. The Sb-800 takes 4 AA batteries, and you can use the optional battery case to add a fifth to decrease recycle time. The batteries last a long time - see the manual for the battery life that Nikon documents. I can go all day without recharging my 2300 ma AA's.This flash also has a number of wireless modes. When using the D70's internal flash as the "Commander" I can trigger the SB-800 and the camera and flash will communicate the exposure information back and forth with a series of brief flashes, then fire the exposure flash. It really works, and works well. The SB800 can also use a SU-4 remote mode, which will trigger the flash when it "sees" any other flash fire, so any camera could trigger it.This flash is not inexpensive, but it works wonders for the photographer who wants flexibility and good exposures. I now find myself wanting another one, to use in a wireless group and expand the flexibility. I recommend it without reservation.

Just What I Wanted
I am very pleased with the lights so far. I only wanted to surround my deck with a soft light, and these are exactly right. I was pleased that 2 replacement bulbs are included--won't need them yet as all of the original bulbs were intact. Packaging was very good--not wasteful at all--every bit of packaging went right into the recycle bin.

Not Pro, But Better Than On-Camera Flash
I bought this for my sister so she could have a simple flash that's better than her DSLR pop-up flash. She's happy with it!From a photography stand point, it has an extremely slow recycle rate, so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to make a career of it. My sister isn't trigger happy, so it works just fine for her.

If you're even just thinking about getting this, d
I started using an SB-600 years ago to get used to flash photography, then went to a SB-700 when I was ready for a second flash, added PocketWizard FlexTT5's to the mix - today I need fast recycle time, and the ability to light up the scene. With the SB-910 there was no light falloff at the corners (which I noticed with the SB-700/600) when doing indoor shoots, shooting on continuous high with the D700/D300s with Eneloop batteries works very well. I use the SB-910 on camera with the FlexTT1 transmitter with the SB-600 and SB-700 on FlexTT5 remotes when doing portraits outdoors or even indoors, they work quite well.

Awesome so far!
Initial impressions are great. Feels quite solid given the price, and rather than a standard PC sync port, the flash has just a 1/8" (3.5mm) port, which is perfect for the standard pocket wizard cables. :) Recycle time is, at least with new batteries, as good as my SB900 with Eneloops.Assuming the unit holds up to it's first shoot, I plan to buy at least 2 more. No need to use a $400 SB900 at a shoot full of kids running around when I could use a $30 flash that is faster to adjust and if it breaks, can be replaced without a second thought.

Awesome Value!
Let me try to get all of the questions out of the way:- This will work with any camera that uses a standard hot shoe. The only exception to this rule is old Sony cameras that have the old Minolta hot shoe.- No high speed sync- No zoom feature- No TTLI think that answers about 90% percent of the question that I see in the question section. So with all of this these "negative" why am I giving it a 5 out of 5. Well to start, the value. Minus the features that I listed above, this does everything that a more expensive speedlite does. Obviously, this will vary from person to person depending on how you use your light. I tend to be a more of an "off-camera" flash photographer. I can create rim light with this and create some interesting lighting angles . You can use this in three modes: Master, Slave 1 and Slave 2. I purchased this with the FM Transmitter and the I am well pleased. Now a few things to consider. You will have to experiment with this to make sure that you get it right until you become more familiar (ie distance, power level and angle). Like I mentioned before, there's no TTL so there will be a lot of guessing initially until you get a better understanding. Secondly, you shutter speed needs to be between 1/30 and 1/160-ish depending on you camera. It does rotate and you can angle the light. For me the recycle speed is fine. Of course this will depend on the battery and the power level that you set it on. I had it on the highest and the longest that it took to recycle was about 2 seconds. Before you shake your head and say that is awful, please note that I had old batteries. However on the lowest power setting, it was instantaneous. I just wanted to put that information out there for the techies out there. To summarize, this is an awesome bargain. It basically is like you pop-up flash on your camera but bigger and able to move. All you can control is the intensity. There's no zoom function and there will be learning curve until you nail it down. If you are a professional, I still would recommend this for rim lighting, secondary fill flash...etc. If you are a beginner or intermediate/enthusiast, I still would recommend this. First it is cheap and you will learn the basics so when you do move on, you will have a better understanding of lighting. I wouldn't recommend this for you as your sole speedlite unless you understand everything about lighting. Other than that, you can't go wrong with this.

Power + fast recycle times = Incredible performer.
I've used an SB-800 for years and it's a great unit - I still use it as a backup or a slave. This light recycles faster than the 800 using NiMh batteries and is a flawless performer. I use it off of the camera with the SC-29 remote cord (has its own red focus assist lights if needed). The smaller Nikon strobes will be fine for most users but if you need the power, zoom capabilities, and fast performance, the 910 is for you.

Easy to set up & light weight
We bought this for festival celebration at home. Everyone liked it.. They are easy to setup and very light weight. They looked really pretty in the dark. The battery are definitely expensive but its better to order new set and recycle the old one once the battery are dead.I am planning to buy another one once the battery are dead.
