Unless you need a device with all modes and all the bells and whistles, you could not find a better unit for working repeaters and general communications. Way more solid and of much higher overall quality than I was expecting for the price.. I never write reviews but this particular product was so far above what one would typically see at this price point that I had to weigh in!

Had another radio from another seller that would never connect to the computer to use Chirp. This one works first try. I recommend that you purchase this one because it works! Some of the apparent knockoffs can't connect to the computer no matter what you do.I'll be honest, I have only had this for a couple of days, but so far the sensitivity has been much better than the UV-5R.

I bought this radio as suggested by a friend who is experienced with ham radio. I am just beginning to get into the hobby and plan on getting my "Technician" class license. Currently I am studying for the exam but I am impressed with the features of the radio I purchased. The model I bought comes with a charger and battery and good quality instructional manual. I plan on buying an extra battery and a more powerful antenna as suggested by my friend. I have not attempted to transmit with the radio as I don't have my license yet but the radio does have the ability/range of frequencies to talk on the FRS frequency which does not require a license. The radio has some nice features which include voice prompts whenever you change modes and it also has a built in LED light for a flashlight (nice touch). I am very happy with my purchase as I also bought the adapter which includes a PTT button that interfaces with my electronic headphones.
