For most users this is just an over-priced replica of the sub $30 models. You still need a decent antenna; a programming cable and it has its own firmware which does not allow cloning to/from their UV-5R's. You will be into a C-note easily. Of course, you will be $30 apart from a sub model regardless. You must import the codes into the img file. Speaker is sub-par. Better battery I suppose if you get stuck in the woods. (carry a spare!) I talked myself into this thinking it must be significantly better for the price hike, but it is not. It is also cheaper on the manufacture website with free shipping but not PRIME shipping. So, the value is yours to ponder. I am keeping it but will buy the UV-5R for the rest of the group.

Solid radio with 8W. Definitely buy the USB cord for programming. Highly recommend for the price.

Quality, affordability, size and durability. Also pretty easy to program manually even if you aren't using PC programs. Only thing I'd suggest is get the BTECH NA-771 antenna to replace the stock antenna the radio comes with. Big improvement. Have fun!

these radios don't always work for the specified range they say they will. I sometimes have to toggle back and forth between frequency and channel mode to avoid interference too.
