It is a good idea to have a couple of these available to communicate with family and friends in an emergency.

This is a fantastic product. There are more features on this device than you will most likely ever need. When I opened the box, the battery was at 50%ish and I was able to keep it on for days and then I decided to charge it; the battery life is phenomenal.

Great product i tested it out with a uv5r i have and the uv5r could hear my transmissions from 3 miles away through a forested park and past alot of building and houses in NYC in my car. But the uv5r couldnt transmit back so the F8HP is a better choice no doubt. Will buy another one to replace my uv5r.

great little radio is all you want to do is listen to the airwaves. But, if you want to use it as a two-way radio, you must get a ham radio license. other than that, i don't know about battery life yet, but it is a nice radio. haven't tried programming it yet (will wait until licensed).

BaoFeng BF-F8HP is an okay starter radio. The front end does get interference with some Radio or Microwave towers that my Yaesu FT 4R does not at the same location. Other than that I use this as an emergency radio in the car.

An excellent radio for the price. I've been so happy with it that I bought this one as a backup. Use Chirp to program it and you will really enjoy using this radio. There are other, nicer radios available, but they will come in at over double the price. Absolutely the radio to start off with if you're new to the hobby. 73, K1RCE.

Cannot get radio to hold programming. I program radio with Chirp. We go out for a desert run in Jeep and it works fine to communicate over repeater and then suddenly will not transmit any longer. I can usually receive transmissions but problems in transmitting every time, not just occasionally. It works, then it doesn’t. I reprogram and test it, and again, it quits transmitting. My sister has the same radio and it does the same thing. Not impressed!
