BF-UV5R (third generation UV-5R) 5W dual-band two-way radio (136-174MHz VHF and 400-520MHz UHF) 1800mAh long battery life (USB connector)
SKU: GW50.0007
I've been carrying a BF-F8HP since they were first introduced. The dependability, functionality and performance of that radio led me to purchasing the 4 radios for this order. On my communications analyzer, the power output in UHF/70CM averages 5.5W with a fully charged battery.Frequency error is very low as is the TX deviation.Squelch opens at <0.25Uv.The build looks better than my older version. My only wish/desire for these radios would be that Baofeng/Pofung or perhaps CHIRP would include a software option to lock the keypad to prevent unintended changes to the settings. That explains the 4 star rating for ease of use...Still, I'd buy these again.KN4PRE

Good little ham radio. Got it for emergencies but will use it often. Programing is complicated but ok once you do it awhile. Good buy for the price.

Buy the Programming Cable, a Nagoya NA-771 15.6-Inch Whip VHF/UHF (144/430Mhz) Antenna or an ABBREE SMA-Female Dual Band VHF/UHF 144/430MHz High Gain Soft Whip Foldable CS Tactical Antenna, a “Walkie-Talkie” Holster, and a “Commountain” 8541724367 external Mic if you plan to holster your Radio on a backpack or Duty Belt. It’s better than the BaoFeng model and is heavy duty.

I usually can't crack our RACES Repeater from my house with a handheld unit... but this one did. And the radio check I did, the other person could hear me very clearly! Very impressive!

Not a HAM, but bought this to use as a mobile scanner, and later a radio once I get my license. Very easy to use and program different frequencies. Scan mode works great for listening to first responders, can imagine it would even be good for a volunteer firefighter or something (unless they get issued one idk). Can hear clearly without hooked up to a repeater, in a valley, at least 8-10 miles. Haven’t been able to reach the ISS yet tho lol. As for battery, had this thing about a year, used on and off a couple months just listening and stuff, didn’t use it for a few more months, then recently went back to it, battery was only down one notch, so I give it a 10/10 on battery, prob even better if you have the extended battery (which I do not). Would recommend.

A little confusing to program from the keypad. Documentation that comes with it is near worthless, but there are a lot of good references on the web and on YouTube.Better range then the straight UV-5R. The 8W transmit power (vs. 5W) is just enough extra power to open up most of the local repeaters

Great little unit. Over 3 miles reception in urban area from unit to unit.Tried over mountainous terrain over 1 miles on the backside of the mountain to inside the house. Very impressed

For the price you pay it's 5 stars. For it's performance and ease of use it's a solid 4.Use it quite a bit while ATV or fishing - not worried about it getting dropped, smashed, wet etc.Not an Icom or Motorola but those aren't $40 either
