As an older user that needs glasses to read the fine print, I’m glad to have all the channel info in one place.

Don't need a radio review as there are a billion out there.. I just wanted to add my 2 cents. I ordered 2 Baoefeng models from ebay (DM-5R and UF-5RIII). Both were same physical shape, size, weight and feel as this Btech UV-5X3. They just lacked the custom or better firmware the btech model has.(FEATURES THIS HAS I COULD NOT FIND IN OTHER EBAY MODELS)- Menu 24 Display Sync option (see channel name and frequency)- Custom Scanning lists- Can change the memory channels, vs delete and re-add!- Custom Scan frequency range! Love this! (I go places and scan things like 467-467 (typical business band) and pick up the local high-rise building peeps, or construction workers, etc.. Fast and wicked easy!(BTECH SUPPORT)WOW!! Truly one of the best 3rd party resellers on Amazon! Katy at Btech reached out to me as a follow-up. I responded with some questions. They answered questions almost instantly. Multi-threaded email responses in a day! WHAT? Who the heck still does that?!! A+ Diamond in the ruff seller right there. Thanks BTECH!

Not one to leave feedback, but the last two experiences are well deserving. The radio purchased here was my second (actually purchased for my father). An issue was coming up where the radio could not be programmed for a repeater manually. I knew something was wrong as my first radio worked flawlessly out of the box.Emailed tech support that night and the following day we had the answer to what setting needed to be manipulated. A lot of people will say you’re getting a “cheap” radio. You’re actually getting an inexpensive radio and great customer service.Radio is five starsCustomer support is six starsDocumentation and attention to detail (two exactly the same radios shipped with different settings) four starsYour getting a much better radio than the price would have you believe. And if something is wrong, support (which I’ve used twice) has your back.

This radio does not receive VHF freq's in the 100-130 band. Work well other wise.

I really like the sync feature (all radios should have sync) and the only thing missing is the ability to disable transmit so that you can use the radio as a scanner only.It seems that only older uv5r models had this feature (I don't know why they did away with it).

This radio has a great feel, works the vhf and uhf amateur bands, and has MARS capability. Programmable by CHIRP software (requires cable). No fancy frills but gets the job done. The LiOn battery is an excellent feature and the accessories are all interchangeable with the uv-5 and bf-f8hp radio series.

The approach a number of transceivers have taken for repeaters is storing separate frequencies for transmit and receive. I wish they wouldn't follow the crowd and use the frequency offset in both the channel mode and frequency mode. At least the BTECH radio did a good job explaining programing the radio in the manual. I would also prefer two knobs, one for on/off and volume, the other for channel selection or up/down on frequency.. Get rid of the LED light on top so antenna and two knobs can go there. Find another place to put the flashlight led. The huge number of menu based controls is hard to follow. Set up a mode that returns the frequency to a default mode that is a good starting point and have all the basic controls for freq, offset, ctcss, squelch and xmit power all in one place in the menus. Many of the menu items are things that don't really need frequent changing and should be separate from the main group of items that are desired to change regularly.Make sure all entries can be done without a computer cable.Ease of use is the most important thing after certain spec items. Talk to people to find out what would make the radio easier to set up.
