This BaoFeng radio, as all their radios, are quality built, technically advanced, and technical support is responsive and supportive. It is a true bargain.

the price was super. The ergonomics not so much. The CTCSS decode doesn't seem to be very responsive. When I listen to a repeater that is sending out CTCSS, if you turn on CTCSS decode the unit should turn squelch off to suppress the squelch tail., it doesn't.

This radio has been great.. I have owned it for about 6 months. As others I recommend the Nagoya 320A tri-band antenna for two reasons...one is never having to swap out antennae when you use 1.25m (220mhz)Although I have not done much experimenting on 70cm, I can hit repeaters 40+ miles away standing outside IF I am facing the right direction. The Chrip software is highly recommended. I first went to www.repeaterbook.com and looked at how many repeaters were available within 50 miles and found around 115 just in the VHF portion and programming all 115 of those would be a pain, so I downloaded Chirp, waited for the programming cable to arrive and soon I was hitting repeaters all over the place I am in the central San Joaquin valley(Stockton,Ca) and can reliably hit repeaters many miles away. If I can get into the repeater with full quieting (which is usually the case), then all audio reports are great. The most popular repeaters in my area seem to be towards the bay area Mount Diablo (Concord) at 34.6miles/, and mount Vaca (Vacavile) 53.8 miles, And while sitting here in my house, I can open the W6SF repeater in Fiddletown some 49 miles away and while they say I have some white noise they can understand all I'm saying.I am thinking of getting the 8 watt version of this radio just to be able to hit the Diablo and Vaca repeaters more reliably. I am very satisfied and would recommend this radio to anyone thinking of getting their 1st HT or a backup as it gets out further than you would think. The only caveat is no digital capability..no D-STAR, or DMR. Oh and this unit is NOT water resistant. Oher than that it is a solid radio. I am trying to talk some of my friends to get their ticket and get one of these radios.

I bought a UV-5x3 about a month ago, and I love it. It is easy to use and sounds great. Unfortunately, a part of the charging system, the desk stand, stopped working. I e-mailed customer service to see what could be done. I got an answer from a real person within two hours (regular business hours). After a few troubleshooting e-mails, she had a new part for the charging system on it’s way. I am very happy with the radio and service! Way to go, BTech!

FCC ID for this radio is 2AGND-5X3. Cannot complain about its quality given its price. Btech replaced mine during the warranty period due to some technical issues. The replacement radio I received still works well.

This is a good little radio. Whether you are working on a radio license for HAM, or just want to listen in it's great. The speaker is clear, squelch is adjustable as are lots of other features. Besides the three bands, it has a push button for FM radio as well. Comes will all the accessories you need. The display is easy to read even for my older eyes. Has a flashlight and strobe on it for location and emergencies. Belt clip, re-charger, and two antenna. I bought a nicer whip antenna so I don't have to swap them, just depends on your usage. Great value for the price. The only con is that the push buttons are small. It is a small radio, and older eyes may struggle reading the dual function of the buttons with a naked eye. I have to use magnifying glasses. The numbers are fine, but each number is also part of a menu system. Those are a little harder to read. You can get a bigger radio, but then you loose the compactness of this one. Also battery will last for days easily if you are not on it talking or listening all the time, maybe even much longer.
