My 10yr old wanted one of these for Christmas. He immediately used it after opening on Christmas morning. Walking up and down on the beach trying to find treasure.

I bought this for my grandson, but put it through its paces just to test it. I really like this unit, and am thinking of getting one for myself! My only issue is with the battery compartment: The two 9-v batteries fit in the compartment very snuggly - so tight that they are difficult to get out. I solved this by clipping a short loop of quite thin nylon cord between the posts of the last battery I install when attaching the snap-on harness. I then make sure the loop extends above the battery and under the door. Now to remove the battery, I just pull on the loop and the battery pops right out. The other battery is then easy to remove. This is my solution, so do at your own risk! Remember to install the batteries posts-down, and keep the harness wires toward the short sides of the batteries....you will understand when you try it: There is more room along the length of the opening than the width. Also, it seemed to me that Energizer batteries fit better than some others. The other issue is - as quite a few folks mentioned - the battery door can easily be dislodged in the field and lost. What I did is first put a piece of neon orange tape on both sides of the door - easier to find if lost. I also have a large rubber band that is stretched around the unit to pin the door. I am thinking of replacing the rubber band with some arrangement of Velcro strapping that would be less ugly and more permanent. This is a great detector for the price, and not just for kids!

This works great. Was a surprise for my husband. Very sleek. Easy to use. Lightweight and seems to pinpoint the object pretty well

I really enjoyed using this metal detecting. I have metal detected before, but don't consider myself an expert. This device was easy to assemble and use. You can dissemble to make it smaller to fit in a carrying bag. It also has different settings, and you can test by placing down different metals. Has an audio port to fit in headphones, but it has to be the ones that have those long connection, sort of like a guitar connecting to an amp. It is not hard to find headphones that fit it. The weight is good, I didn't get tired of using it, until maybe about an hour in. It also seems to be adjustable. For your first metal detector, or one that has a few more features than a basic one, you would want this. I would say it is good for beginners to advanced users. You can adjust the sensitivity, and it takes time to figure all that out. It makes two or three noises. One loud beep, a kind of quick beep, and then a low distorted beep. If set up correctly, you can use these beep sounds to figure out what it is detecting.

Make sure you take your time to get to know this. Know the different sounds, etc. i noticed when mine rubs against the sand even lightly, it makes a sound. So there was a few times i found myself digging for nothing.I would also do yourself a favor and get rechargeable 9 volts. The battery can affect how well it works. This does have an onboard speaker so you don't need headphones, but if you're going to the beach you're going to have a hard time hearing it.But to date ive found 11 cents!

I bought this to try to locate my property markers (pins, stakes). I was able to locate all of them! I knew the general area my markers would be by using the city plot maps along with google satellite view. I had narrowed it down to about a 5-10 foot area for each marker. My markers were about 10 inches deep and the Bounty Hunter TK4 Tracker IV Metal Detector was able to locate them. I only had a little bit of trouble finding one marker and that was due to some other metal items around that location. When I thought I located a marker, I would dig down a few inches and then scan the hole with the metal detector again just to make sure there was something still there. On one of the locations, while rescanning I noticed it didn't beep any more at the spot I was digging. I then scanned over my pile of dirt from my dig and it beeped.... I sifted through the pile and found I had dug up an old beer tab and a nail. I started scanning the area again and was able to locate the marker. (note: I did use the metal detector in the "all metal" setting to find my markers)
