40X-5000X Compound Trinocular Optical Microscope, Electronic Eyepiece and Mechanical Stage, WF10x and WF25x Eyepieces, Abbe Condenser
SKU: GW45.0066
I'm quite surprised as to the good quality of this microscope for the price. I was expecting a bit less but pleased with what was received. The body is cast, heavy and solid, no toque issues during focus. The stage is also solidly built, if it's plastic it doesn't feel like it, it feels like metal with a powder coating or something. The stage clip could use a bit of work but it holds the slides in place well enough. All adjustments, stage and focus (coarse and fine) are well built and offer smooth movement. The condenser and aperture surprised me on this one, again for the price range I really assumed they would have skimped on the quality here but they actually pulled through and included some decent hardware that offers good lighting distribution and contrast adjustments. The LED itself, however, could use some work as the brightness levels aren't the best. Obviously it can dim down to off, but it doesn't seem to want to get bright enough when the aperture is closed all the way for higher contrast, it could use a bit more brightness, especially if using the 100/1.25 objective lens.
The video in this review shows the blood sample provided with the microscope at 3 stages, recorded with my phone with the included phone mount atop the 2x & 25x lenses. The 1st part is 4/0.1 (200x), 2nd part is with 10/0.25 (500x), and 3rd / final part is with the 40/0.65 (2,000x).
The phone mount is cheap plastic and wobbles around on the eyepiece, but locks to the phone quite well and offers adequate adjustments for your phone camera lens placement.
Power supply is via a USB plug but the microscope itself doesn't have a USB plug (see picture of plug type). Power output of provided adapter states it's 1,000mA, so 1 amp, so keep that in mind in case you plan on using this with a USB power bank. Possible as long as it can output enough current.
No broken or missing parts and overall very pleased. This will provide an amazing learning experience for the kids, with adult supervision and guidance. Highly recommend for any young aspiring scientists out there.

The microscope itself is amazing and with all the correct pieces and software, you can do some awesome things. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it came with a disk instead of a link to download the software to use the eyepiece. And the instructions didn't really give good instructions on how to set it up. But they did state in the instructions to email them if you can't use the disk. When I emailed they were very responsive. The first link they sent didn't work but they provided other options based off if I had a Mac or PC and they gave me the correct software for my Mac and it worked. It took a while to position it correctly though to actually see something on my screen but I figured that out as I kept playing with it. The instructions weren't that great but the product itself was well worth the investment.

Great quality. The craftsmanship is what you hope for and expect for the price

This microscope is solidly built and has a lot of great features, including a movable stage with calipers to hold slides. However it also has complicating feature. One important note: There is a black pin on the right side of the scope, which is not mentioned in the manual. DO NOT unscrew it, or the whole top of the scope will fall off!
The main problem I'm having is that the instruction manual is a shambles of poorly-written and worse-translated verbiage that references certain parts of the scope, but not others, and doesn't clearly explain the parts it references. Add to that the fact that it references things that aren't shown in the illustrations, and the confusion increases. It appears that the manual was written for a different microscope and not edited to describe the use of this one. The translation into English is worse than sloppy, barely intelligible in places.
The scope comes with a small CD that will install the "Strangeview" program on a PC to allow you to see images on the computer screen and save photos and videos. I only installed it on an old disused laptop because somewhere in the installation process I was instructed that if my virus software objected I had to turn that off to install the program. Being as this software comes from an unknown source, I'm not willing to install it on a newer computer.
If you want to install the software on a Mac, you'll need to send an email to an address given in the manual and ask to be sent a link to download the software. I emailed that address about another issue 3 days ago and have not yet received any acknowledgment or response.
The software does work fairly well and has nice features such as letting you input information onto the screen when taking photos and videos. But it crashes frequently and can't be shut down without resorting to Alt-Ctrl-Del and End Process. If you click on the Help icon in the software it opens a blank document with nothing but a title and a date.
When using the electronic eyepiece to output images to the computer, I find it very difficult to achieve focus on the higher magnifications. A quality eyepiece ought to screw into the receptacle, but this one just sits loosely in and is easy to jostle out of position.
Some of the mp4 files saved by Strangeview will not play on my computer while others will, and it appears that ones that I've added identifying visual data to are the ones that won't play. They are apparently written with a different codec that Windows Media Player does not recognize.
The best way I'm finding to use the scope is by attaching a smart phone to one of the eyepieces with the supplied Mobile Phone Support.
Overall the scope's performance is good. The different objective lenses click in solidly with reasonable precision. You'll need to refocus with each lens change though. The coarse and fine focus knobs work well.
There is no company name on the scope or in the manual, so there is no way to contact the manufacturer for further information, and the email address supplied in the manual has not brought any response within 3 days.
I seriously considered giving only 3 stars because of the shabby instruction manual and nonresponsive email address, but the microscope is solid and functional, so if it came with an adequate manual and a better computer program I might even give it 5 stars.

I really like the microscope. It's an art to use one. You have to really take your time. Or get some more light. It's like photography. It is a wonderfully made. Microscope. I've been able to see all kinds of new things. It is well made. It works fantastic. I can't wait to test more of their products. Thank you. It's been a joy.

This microscope has all the features found on far more expensive ones. Optics are good, focusing is easy, and the lighting fully adjustable. Highly recommend for college level microscopy but affordable enough for use in your at home lab. It's been great in my apiary operation to evaluate Nosema.

All the screws holding the head mount on were floating loose in the microscope and one was missing
It feels a bit cheap in the action of the stage but for the money good value

This microscope has a top notch build. All mechanisms rotate and adjust smoothly. I was very pleased with the lenses as well. They provided a crystal clear image on all slides I've observed. I was able to also successfully connect this to a monitor to view the slides on a larger screen. There is a phone mount included as well for recording footage. Overall I'm very pleased with the build and lens quality.

Overall, I love the microscope it works really well and I'm learning more each time i use it. I had to order and external drive to download the software to my laptop after days of trying to get the electric file sent to me with absolutely no response. So, i downloaded the software and bam the camera won't work so i just gave up on the camera which is very disappointing because i have bad vision and it would have made it a blessing. So, i guess i will have to order another camera from someone else which is very unfortunate because of paying for one with the microscope. And please don't tell me all I had to do is reach out to you i did with no results so if you want you can reach out to me.
