I was looking to upgrade my motorcycle helmet Bluetooth communication system and came across this new unit (the R3) from FreedConn. I have been using FreedConn’s older TCOM-SC bluetooth communication system And have been thrilled with its simplicity and ease of use and reliability. That unit was great for GPS directions and music listening as well and taking and receiving phone calls while riding. When I saw the other manufacturers start to come out with combined Bluetooth audio and camera systems in a single unit I was intrigued but turned off by their huge price tags. So I purchased a separate action camera to account my TCOM-SC.
Enter the R3! Combining the reliability and familiarity of my old FreedConn unit with an integrated action camera; I couldn’t be happier. While I haven’t mounted it yet because I’m waiting for my new helmet to arrive I have explored it’s features, used the app and started to learn all the functions. The video quality is impressive, the sound is great and will surely be even better inside the helmet, and the promised battery life far exceed my previous unit and is game changer by itself. While it is slightly larger than the audio only models, it is significantly smaller than any action camera plus an audio unit. The fact that they are integrated into one unit just makes it that much better. If you’d te looking for a Bluetooth helmet comms unit and camera in one, forget the Sena and Cardos…go FreedConn and use that extra money to fill the tank!

Speakers sound amazing. Video is good quality, camera doesn't bounce around while riding. Camera can be flipped backwards to capture other riders or drivers.
I have owned a lot of helmet Bluetooth systems and this is probably my favorite I have purchased.

I purchase this helmet video camera strictly for just the video. It also comes with many other features such as FM radio, the ability to connect via Bluetooth to your phone and play music and answer/reject calls. (Also has an auto answer call feature which you can turn off or on)
I was super impressed with the bass and sound quality when I did hook up the speakers. To be honest, it sounded clear & richer than a name brand Bluetooth intercom device that begins with S & has 4 letters. JS.
I'm hoping the uploaded video isn't compressed & does justice to the clarity of the video recording. At the time of my recording for the video, I did not have the mic or speakers connected therefore you will just hear wind.
My current helmet already has a Bluetooth connection but I wanted this device, as stated, just for the camera. I was able to connect it to the helmet without disturbing the helmet's Bluetooth control box. But that said, it can work independently as just a video recording device without all the wires. But once you connect everything, you can enjoy the full benefits of the FreedConn R3 which is 2nd to none. You can toggle between using it as a video camera or listening to your phone's music/radio. However, when I try to do both at the same time, my music skipped a lot though.
Overall, it's a powerful little unit that is capable of doing so much. Also, which makes it the best is that customer service is super responsive to your needs. I highly recommend this camera if you don't want to shell out hundreds for the GoPro.

It works smoothly. Takes a bit to get used to what does what button wise but it becomes second nature pretty quickly. The buttons are big enough to be used with motorcycle gloves, and having the ability to switch mic inputs makes narrating a video easy with one device.
Great customer support, the only little thing I had trouble with (I hate reading directions so I usually screw something up with a new toy, on this is was switching languages) they explained clearly in a single sentence what I did wrong and haven't had a problem since.
Great for music on long rides too, even has FM to catch local stations as you're riding through somewhere. Pairs easily to your phone if you'd rather use that.
Haven't tried it as an intercom with other units yet, I'm usually solo.

I have used the R3 for over month on my daily commute. I highly recommend the R3 if you want a solid high quality video recorder for motorcyclist. The video playback is crisp and clear, the audio is fantastic as the R3 filters out wind noise. The R3 also comes with microphones and earphones for your helmet, they were easy to install thanks to the well written instructions. The R3 can be connected to your phone to listen to music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc., while still being able to hear your surroundings while riding. I used the clamp attachment for the helmet and I have never felt the R3 falling off, even on rough riding. It's very easy to remove the R3 from the helmets attachment in order to charge or remove its memory card. Its sometimes hot where I live (some days are over 100°F or 37°C) and I was worried that the R3 would overheat like other cameras I've had in the past, but the R3 is mighty and worked/recorded nonstop for hours I was riding, exceeding my expectations.
In conclusion, this was a great purchase. I am very happy with the R3, everything works, I have had ZERO issues. I will recommend the R3 to anyone interested.

I love recording my motorcycle rides. My GoPro wasn’t doing it for me. This product has long lasting recording and it looks amazing watching the great quality. Easy to figure out once you get the hang of it. So happy to go with this product. I’m happy to be recording and listening to music at the same time! An all in one favorite. Thank you!
