37mm Black Mist 1/8 Filter + Lens Cap, Mist Cinematic Effect Filter with 18 Multi-Layer Coatings for Video, Vlog, Portrait Photography Nano-Klear Series
SKU: KF01.2350V2
I ordered this filter, which is 77mm in size, and I use step-up rings to fit my various lenses. This 1/8 Black Diffusion filter has 18 multi-layer coatings. I use the filter for talking head videos and portrait photography. The effect is pleasing without appearing unnatural and provides a slight softening effect. There's a quality lens cap with a lanyard. The filter works perfectly and gives me the desired look for my images. I usually attach lanyards to the base of the lens rather than at the end; for that reason, I would prefer a longer lanyard.

This is the first time I've tried a filter of this type and brand. This filter has a subtle and pleasant effect, in the right lighting conditions. The build quality is excellent. It screws on and off easily, is light and sharp. It arrived very clean and free of defects. I didn't notice any chromatic aberration or flare.
In addition to the filter, the kit includes a lens cleaning cloth, a cover, a wrist strap and the case. The cloth is fine; the cover is nice and sturdy, but I find it a bit heavy and hard to unhook (compared to my original Olympus cover); the strap is very light and I don't trust using it to hold the camera; the case is too large to be comfortable to carry the filter comfortably. However, it's all a bonus since the price seems reasonable for the filter alone.
Overall, I'm happy with it.

In certain circumstances, using this filter is useful, particularly to reduce excessive contrast.
For a "softened" portrait, the effect isn't very visible; you won't end up looking like David Hamilton with this filter.
It doesn't induce chromatic aberrations.
It requires several tests at different apertures depending on your lenses to optimize the results. You'll need to note them on a small piece of paper to put in the box; it's not easy to see through the viewfinder.

It gives a cool effect to the photos right away rather than having to focus too much on replicating this effect in editing

This 43mm diffusion filter has been a fantastic addition to my gear, especially for video work and portrait photography. It adds just the right amount of softness to highlights and skin tones without making the image look overly hazy or losing sharpness. Its 1/8 strength is subtle, which I love, as it keeps things cinematic but still clean.
Build quality is excellent. The filter threads on smoothly and feels solid, not flimsy or cheap. The 18-layer multi-coating really does help reduce flare and maintain contrast, even in brighter shooting conditions. It’s also great that it comes with a lens cap, and it’s those small touches that make a difference when you’re working quickly on set or on the go.
For vloggers, filmmakers, or portrait photographers who want to give their footage that polished, dreamy glow without going overboard, this filter hits the sweet spot. It delivers pro-level results at a reasonable price, and I’ll definitely be picking up more in other sizes. Highly recommended!

As others have mentioned, this filter is very subtle in most circumstances... which is exactly what it should be at 1/8th strength. If you want to clearly see what the filter is doing, put a light source (like a candle or LED) directly in the frame and you'll see an increased glow and gentle fall-off. This filter is designed specifically for that type of highlight; stronger versions will soften wrinkles and take the digital edge off the image. Concept's Black Diffusion filter retains all the sharpness of the image without shifting the color, which is exactly what you want. Highlight bloom-- and softer images, if that's what you're looking for-- can be accomplished in post easily enough, but there is an elegance to doing it in camera. This filter is extremely well-priced, and well made. It's thin, with a textured rim in order to grip it easily, and threads on and off with ease. The promotional images in this listing are entirely fake (so perhaps I should remove a star for that); the image will look nothing like these dreamy, soft pictures, but it can enhance the cinematic quality in the right scene.

I have been consistently happy with K&F filters. They are a great way to get different shots that won't break your bank. The filter is good quality. Fit my lens with no issues. Easy to put on and take off. Comes with a case for it to help protect it and it fits nicely in my carry case for my cameras.

I picked this up because I'm starting a Youtube channel and will be filming myself, unfortunately. I wanted a mist filter to smooth some of the lines on my face and to give some bloom to the LED lights behind me. At 1/8 strength, this is a very subtle effect; I'm trying to decide if it's too subtle for my taste. At this strength I see little-to-no difference when it comes to softening harsh lines on my face; however, this does work nicely to provide some attractive bloom with bright light sources. In my opinion, the promotional images here on Amazon greatly exaggerate the strength of this filter. I would imagine a 1/4 filter would give you images like the ones presented here. The filter comes with a large plastic case, a pointless wrist strap, and a lens cap. This pinch-style lens cap works very nicely -- frankly I like it better than Sony's own lens caps. The filter is well machined, and it screws on and off of my lenses perfectly. There is knurling on some of the edge to help spin the filter on and off -- which is a very useful feature for filters. The filter doesn't appear to have any color cast, but I haven't tested it with a color chart. If you want a subtle ethereal look to your images without making the images look too processed, this filter will work very well for you. If you want images that have a bold, misty look, you'll likely want a stronger option -- like the 1/4 filter.

K&F Concept have always had excellent filters and this is no exception. Included with all of their filters is a quality case and microfiber cloth. This also adds a lens cap an a orange retaining strap so as not to lose it. Note that the green coating covers the entire front of the filter not partially as suggested in the description graphic.
