This isn't the latest and greatest. Certainly not going to put it up against the new Peter McKinnon ND Filter but for the money I'm quite pleased.

I almost gave up on trying to invest in an ND filter because I wasn't ready to spend $200 or more on some waterfall shots. Came across this one and LOVED it. Took it on my trip to Italy, and it provided some phenomenal shots in full daylight. It worked great with both 30-second exposures of waterfalls and also when I just needed it to block out the haze from the rising sun at the top of St. Peter's Basilica. Sure, there might be a shadow around the edges, but the overall quality of the photos that this provides is well worth it.

This definitely does what it says and takes a few stops of brightness off your photos. Unfortunately I am a phone-tographer, so I am limited to using this with a wide-angle lens kit that I have, which substantially limits the darker end of it's capabilities by introducing the black 'X' into the darkest settings. It is still a useful investment, and will also add polarizing effect if the filter can rotate freely around the lens. One issue was that the locking ring came loose, allowing the glass to rotate inside the adjustment ring. I didn't re-tighten it precisely, so now the max-min scale on the ring isn't accurate. Not a big deal unless you are using an SLR.

It’s decent. Not the best. Ring is a little stiff. But it does the job and does it well for the price!

Not sure how it compares to other bottom of the line variable ND filters, but seems to provide the basics for learning how to use ND filters. There should be an asterisk (*) after "ND 400" because it becomes more limited and unusable the darker you set it. It gets a blind spot on the image, and you have to set the filter at lighter densities to get rid of it. Perhaps there are situations where you can use it on full density, I don't know what those are. Also color shift to a kind of purple, making editing necessary, perhaps density related also (?). No color issue for black and white of course but blind spots will still occur at dark densities. Nicely made and packaged not-too-professional ND filter. Will take some trial and error to learn its curve and find its sweet spots. Should work well for many applications.

The only problem I ran into was having to autofocus the scene first, then change the settings to manual and then add the filter and adjust the shutter speed based on the ND settings. Other than that, it is a great filter...
