49mm ND2-ND400 (9 Stops) Variable ND Filter Neutral Density Adjustable Filter for Canon Nikon DSLR Cameras + Lens Cleaning Cloth
SKU: SKU0690
Serious photographers know that if you cheap out, you often end up paying twice! That being said, I wanted to experiment with ND filters for long exposure daylight pictures. Problem: good brand filters cost hundreds of dollars, and have a fixed light stopping power. From that perspective, this deal was attractive!I used this filter on my Zeiss lenses (that happen to have 49 mm filter trend), and results were mixed. Yes, it allowed me to slow down shutter speed, but I’ve noticed that frame surface was uneven on some settings, with darker spots. This could be a tradeoff of having variable ND functionality, but regardless it will require additionnal post work on your behalf. Also, expect some minor color refraction. On positive side, it’s fun to use, and still creates interesting results. Packaging is nice, and it comes with a cleaning towlet and a hard caseIf you seek a toy, its perfect. For serious work - look at other options.

You get color cast, but it's a lot better than Neewer, which came broken

Works very good at low F-Stop but starts to fall apart when pushed to its limits, which is completely fine given its price point, if used to shoot at like f/1.7 with 1/60s exposure the image will look good, but stopping the filter even more will show an X pattern.

Bought this to photograph the eclipse. Worked well for that. 4/5 due to the lack of stops, and lack of marks/etching to indicate approx ND level. Like I said, worked well, but if you want any idea of what your actual exposure values are you'll need to mark it ahead of time at a minimum.

For the price, this product works very well. Some settings are unusable (the X that people have talked about) but it otherwise works very well

It work well for video but it's not dark enough for pictures during the day. Compared to another maker it's lacking couple of stops. For the price it's still hard to beat.

At maximum setting, it's still not usable. I think it works up to 5 stops. It's still nice alternative to expensive filters.

I took some long exposure photos of waterfalls in the middle of the afternoon and got beautiful results. I'm no professional, but to me, there was no noticeable color cast. I love it, and I'm going to order one that will fit my other lens, too.
